Hmmm. So, if I'm reading this right, Spence has pointed out that the treaties are with the crown, and thus the responsibility of the GG.....but the GG is not supposed to be involved in politics persay. So, if she forces the issue, is she essentially proving to the world that Canada's treaties are unworkable under current political law? Is she potentially shooting herself and her people in the foot?

I for one really don't want this issue to go away. I want Spence to keep pushing even though I think she's doing it wrong. I want Idle No More to organize better and state their case strongly. I want to hear all this, and see a workable solution come out because of all of it. But part of me can't help wondering, given the international view of segregating an indigenous population, given the apparent clashes between treaty and political law, if the whole system isnt going to come crashing down as we know it.

From a the view of the Canadian public in the context of this situation, I think Spence was actually doing alright until now. She originally promised to see Harper (never mentioned GG) and now that Harper committed (somewhat), she's backing down. It's a silly game that our government is playing, but it will be extremely difficult for her to overcome public scrutiny for backing out of a promise.

I kind of thought that once it was divulged that $100 million was spent with no accounting and no receipts that perhaps this issue should go away. How would you feel if you gave your kid $100 thousand to build a house and there was no house, no money and no receipts?

If the crown is responsible for these treaties then shouldn't Brittian's taxpayers be footing the bill instead of us? Or if we inherited the mess from England why is Spence insisting on the GG being involved? OH Look over there?

Like a taxpayer.

I don't think the issue should go away. I think it should be cracked wide open. Do you honestly have no nagging impression that our government might maybe just a little be willing to try its best to discredit her?

I don't like the way she's seemingly cracked up under the pressure, lashing out at the media, but I also don't buy the government line 100%

Don't get me wrong, Karrie, I WAS on her side for the longest time, the issue at the get go being the squalor the First Nations were living in and I have no reason to believe the Gov't. hasn't put up the funding over the years. She went on a "hunger strike" to try to get Harper's attention. I don't think the G.G. should involve himself directly with such issues. Since the missing money has become apparent she's changed her tune and doesn't want to meet, since Harper has fulfilled his part and agreed to meet. She or someone managing the money has an obligation to disclose the disposition of those funds!

Harper hasn't fulfilled his part. He is not going to be there. He's is going to be there at the opening only.

Spence and Idle No More have zero in common. Spence and the media trampled all over the core issues of Idle No More.

Harper has zero obligation to Spence and in terms of his involvement in the AFN meeting, to my knowledge, he never articulated that he would be there for any specified period of time.

Who is Idle No More gerryh? Do you even know what they want?

Spence adopted the Idle No More movement, not the other way around

Obviously you have not checked their web page, which is surprising (not) since you seem to be a big supporter. I suggest you do a little reading.

At least one person is paying attention. Thanks for paying attention.Cpt

Why would I need to check their web page when I can walk a block and a half to the North Central Community Center and have coffee with the founders?

Well, if the "founders" don't support her then they have lost control because right on the front page is a statement of support for Chief Spence.
