The Westboro Church consists mainly of an extended family.....very few supporters. They also depend on publicity, and usually telegraph their intention to protest.

What is needed is much LARGER counter-protests, to surround them and drown them out.

As opposed to just drown them....as enticing a prospect as that may be.

You know, I was brought up in a strict Baptist home be loving parents....that community would be horrified at the actions of the Westboro Church....I am a member of no church, but I am embarrassed that these people call themselves Baptists....or Christians, for that matter.
Counter-protest like the following?

#13 is my personal fav (but then I have a very dark sense of humour)

I'm not sure that if these people protested a funeral of a family member of mine I would actually be offended. I can see why people would be offended, but I don't quite understand it. If they're loud enough to disrupt the proceedings sure, but what do I care what some inbred religious lunatic thinks?

If it were a member of my family's funeral being harassed, I'd be arrested and convicted of aggrevated assault for stuffing signs up vaginas.

I get what you're saying, and you're right, I also do not care about the thinking (or lack thereof) of some inbred religious lunatic.

However, I would like to think that there is such a thing as common courtesy and civility. A funeral is not the time nor the place.Period end of story.

And they are loud and disruptive from what I understand. Jeers and chants often drowning out the service.

Well, with some luck they will look after themselves.

WOW! When students at Texas A&M found out that the Westboro Baptist Church was planning a protest at the funeral of a soldier who was killed in active duty, they formed a "maroon wall" around the church to shelter the family and friends of the fallen soldier.

I was wondering who had resurrected this old thread! LOL. I logged on tonight to a greenie for a post I did in March 2011! I think this was one of the first threads I ever posted in actually.:)

I love that photo and those kids deserve a standing ovation for what they did. A million thumbs up to them for blocking out those bigoted, selfish, ignorant bastards!

Thanks Colpy for sharing this!!!

If they ever protested at a funeral for one of my loved ones I would probably end up getting charged with assault. This is not Freedom of Speech, it is hate speech, and should be considered a hate crime.

They are scum, and now that they have won their appeal look for them to be even more obnoxious. One of these days they are going to attend the wrong funeral and then they will regret their actions.

I agree - the hate speech spread by the Westboro Baptist Church is both sick and disgusting. I'm so happy we have separation of church and state.

Awesome. Its about time people stood up to them in an effective way. I hope they'll manage to do this anywhere else this church tries to "protest."

I just hope that people know far enough in advance where these idiots plan to "protest" next so they can prepare a proper welcome. I have a feeling that Westboro may try to go the "sneaky" route in the future. That way they can't be hindered in their plans.

They wouldn't protest if it didn't get publicity.
