Are the people who advocate "going green" today just a bunch of bloody hypocrites?

Really?... So Flossy wasn't advocating for the use of non-plastic garbage bags?

Possibly too much of what is "garbage" isn't really garbage, hence making the bag largely a moot point!

Many of those bags actually decompose into small bits of plastic, which then enter the food chain. Some studies show that these plastic particles are detectable in the flesh of some sea life.

Is that really a solution?
So i guess cruise ships must still be dumping their garbages overboard, just so they won't have to pay for disposal at the ports where they stop.

I think the main point (as this thread shows) is that anyone can be ignorant of certain factors and improving environmental behaviour is a truly complex case that requires a bit of research. It's not something you want to simply take an overtly negative attitude toward because that doesn't help anybody.

No, actually, a lot of this waste goes down storm drains in places like LA where it ends up in the water, or is blown out to sea by the wind.

It still takes land to grow other plants.

You're right. Plastic only breaks down into smaller particles. It never bio-degrades.

AH yes what some people stupidly throw down on the streets, must be too hard to throw those in garbage cans.

The fiber waste of food crops can and are (as far as I know) being used to make building materials. There is no reason not to use them to make garbage bags as well. Do they really use oats or do they use oat straw? Hemp makes superior paper products and it is an annual renewable resource. It is idiotic to take an either or stance. It just proves one's ignorance. We don't need to use oil or destroy our forests. That is the BS of people with an agenda.

What does the soil get for growing that fibre? Tire tracks?

That is a rediculous statement and you know it. You grow crops. What do you do with the chaff? Where does straw come from?

You implied that I advocated paper bags in its place, when I clearly stated that whatever resource we use, depends on the current context of exploitation and the damage therein.

Your words Flossy, admitting that your solution was tough on the forests.

But please continue your goal post shifting.

It really upsets you when you're caught with your own words, doesn't it?

You've earned a high credibility rating on these forums because of it.

Too funny coming from the poster that is King (and Queen) of the Troll and Bait threads... I'll be laughing at that one for a long time to come.

It all goes right back into the soil to keep it alive. Soil needs to eat too.

Some people make alcohol and plastics from the oils which come from the food source but some use the fiber from leaves and stocks. Make sense to me to use the fiber. There is no need to grow crops just for fiber when it is a waste product already.

That was a pretty foolish and thoughtless assault, Nuggler. You achieved nothing but to show that you gave no consideration to what was said or could not comprehend something quite clear and simple.

"Back in the day," the average carbon footprint was a fraction of what it is now and, as many of the posts have indicated, much of what has replaced some things, are wasteful, energy consuming and unnecessary.

In those times, most people did think in terms of sustainability, and practised it. Built in onsolence, as some have since talked about, would have been anathema.

But no need for more. I don't know what got into you.

It's not waste. You know zero about today's agriculture I see.
