Are the people who advocate "going green" today just a bunch of bloody hypocrites?

You are so heartless... Won't someone please think of the children!?

Take it easy there, Dennis Miller.

And dumping them when it doesn't work for some things.

They already dump them. That's what's contributing to the $7.7 Billion in costs for contaminated sites.

I think that you need a reminder on this MF... I still can't believe that you advocate the clear cutting of forests to employ for garbage bags.

I never advocated that.

If you read between the lines, it is crystal clear that you advocate for the wholesale clear cutting of tens of thousands of hectares of old growth forests.

Ohhh, the humanity!

Well you can continue to wrongly assume, which is fine with me.

Edit: Just hit 10k. Sweeeet.

Let's keep in mind that mass adoption takes time. It starts with people taking initiatives and businesses taking risks.

Oh, and government enforcing environmental policy as well, lol

I think it starts with those preaching to it leading by example before even trying to legislate it on everybody else.

Thank you for that... I am just so upset that I can't get my thoughts together properly... I just hope and pray that people like MF will just think of the children on this.. And the wee birds and the little foxes and the other cute little forest denizens that rely on these old growth forests for shelter and sustenance.

So we need more preaching then?

Good luck with that one considering the likes of the 'leaders' drive pollution-spewing diesel buses and Lear jets to their various social engagements.

Re: Are the people who advocate "going green" today just a bunch of bloody hypocrites

True.

The choice should be based on which resource does more damage the more it is exploited.

These ones are made out of corn:

BioBag Compostable Tall Kitchen Bags - BioBag Compostable Tall Kitchen Bags Prices

Many of those bags actually decompose into small bits of plastic, which then enter the food chain. Some studies show that these plastic particles are detectable in the flesh of some sea life.

Is that really a solution?

Most bags are mostly manufactured from plastic made from corn-based materials, like Polylactic acid (PLA). Biodegradable plastic bags require more plastic per bag, because the material is not as strong.[citation needed] Many bags are also made from paper, organic materials, or polycaprolactone.[2][3][8]
"The public looks at biodegradable as something magical," even though the term is mostly meaningless, according to Ramani Narayan, a chemical engineer at Michigan State University in East Lansing, and science consultant to the Biodegradable Plastics Institute. "This is the most used and abused and misused word in our dictionary right now. Simply calling something biodegradable and not defining in what environment it is going to be biodegradable and in what time period it is going to degrade is very misleading and deceptive." In the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, biodegradable plastics break up into small pieces that can more easily enter the food chain by being consumed."

Really?... So Flossy wasn't advocating for the use of non-plastic garbage bags?

You implied that I advocated paper bags in its place, when I clearly stated that whatever resource we use, depends on the current context of exploitation and the damage therein.

But please continue your goal post shifting.

You've earned a high credibility rating on these forums because of it.

Non-plastic decomposing into plastic?

Hmm.. I never knew that was possible, but if true, good to know.
