Are the people who advocate "going green" today just a bunch of bloody hypocrites?

If that is the case, then why do you bother commenting? If it's a foregone conclusion, nothing you say will change it, so you're wasting time and raising your own blood pressure needlessly.

I have no tv here in Sask so it's my only form of entertainment.

You do realize it is possible to reduce emissions and maintain the status quo right?

On one side we have people saying that it has no impact on the environment, and everything is safe (we saw it in the gulf of Mexico, and on the other side we have eco extremist saying we should stop living, yet these same eco nuts "Al Gore" for example preached for a greener world, that we must start riding on byicycles, yet he travels the world in freaking jets (which aren't energy efficiant...i guess) H.Y.P.O.C.R.I.T.E.

Back in the "good 'ol days" everything was greener cause there were way less people mindlessly consuming the planet.

Hasn't the population of some countries been SHRINKING in the last 50 years?

Growth is slowing, the population isn't getting any smaller.

Once upon a time we used the plastic grocery bags for garbage bags. Now we take our own "green" shopping bag to the store and buy a roll of plastic garbage bags. How is this helping?

It makes people feel better. As long as you're seen to be doing something that's perceived as good, that's the important thing. You don't want to dig too deeply into whether or not you actually are helping, that would be too hard on the thought process.

They make non-plastic garbage bags.

To answer the question in the subject line: I think a lot of green initiatives are. There is a lot of 'everybody else needs to do stuff' mentality. To believe the myth that CO2 will wreck the planet and commute by car to and from work each day is hypocracy. To not use public transit where possible is hypocracy for those that believe.

Remember seeing a tree planting a couple of years ago. Almost 100% of the people that showed up showed up be car. 85% of the people that showed up by car showed up driving an SUV. A picture of hypocracy. I don't think the tree they planted undid whatever effect they had by attending. They would have been better off sitting on the couch. But 'must be seen doing green' plays into it.

So true, most of the eco nuts are rich, they parade in their expensive toys and then have the audacity to tell us regular folks to be green.

Let's keep in mind that mass adoption takes time. It starts with people taking initiatives and businesses taking risks.

Oh, and government enforcing environmental policy as well, lol

I'll agree to that.

But I would also applaud them for using their money toward a good cause if it is indeed helping.
