Actually, I think Oliver has hit on answer to a problem that will soon devastate Alberta. Albertans should start now drinking that water in small quantities to get their systems accustomed to it and desensitized to its toxicity.

Within a decade, Alberta will be suffering from a water shortage that there will be no solution for. Some time in the very near future it will also need vast quantities of water for irrigation as climate change dries it out and the "dust Bowl" returns.

The tailing ponds may give a few years to allow the two or three million refugees to escape to Ontario.

Was the last "dust bowl" because of gw or was it natural fluctuations in earths temp and weather?

It was not because of Global Warming, but what does that have to do with anything. Warming is causing the problem now (plus unsustainable farming methods). In the 30s it was just agriculture ignorance and rapacity.

They'll be de-watering a good chunk of land for Ontario's ring of fire mines. Maybe you can work out a deal - if the operator doesn't pipe it south
A drop in the bucket to the oil sands. And Ontario's rivers are not totally dependent on glacier flows as are Alberta's.

Ohhh... Anthropogenic Global Warming!.. The cause du jour that has no foundation in fact is the cause/effect relationship that you point to.

Out of curiosity; in the 30's, was there no impact from humanity that contributed?... It is believed to be a simple function of good ole Mother Gaia?

I'm interested in hearing your unsupported response.... Please, do inform us all on this remarkable exception.

Please, Captain, you are smarter than that. I have no time for feigned stupidity.

For your salvation:
Isaiah 6:10
"Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed."

Agricultural practice. Man affects his environment.

I guess ignorance is bliss.

A contributing factor to the "dust bowl" of the 30's was a severe drought. Yes, improper agricultural practices made it worse, but the fact is that there was severe drought. Drought, that's what you're blaming GW for, isn't it cabbagebrains.

I believe Tonington has provided plenty of scientific evidence. You, on the other hand, just deny and denigrate others. You should be the last person demanding proof of anything because you have not provided any to back up your childish behaviour.

Minister says tailings ponds will be so clean 'you'll be able to drink from them'

... says the sub-human who's greatest accomblishment was getting a job way over his talent-level.

Yeah yeah I know the answer would be for him to feed that water to his kids and wife for a year, and then we'd get lots of stories about how he doesn't drink it himself etc. etc. yadda yadda.

I'm sure the technology exists.
it does,I spent a year there with the TRO program(Tailings reduction ops) and its old technology being used where it never has.We add poly flocculants at a certaim ratio to dredged out tailings, spread them on the beach and in 19 days it has released the moisture leaving you with a dry product. Before it would take 20 years as mft or mature fine tailings would sit in suspension and not release it's water molecules.Tailings ponds can now be reclaimed as soon as they are dredged out.

Many theories abound that attempt to suggest a cause and effect relationship. Some of those theories include man as the principal cause, others don't.

In many regards, the AGW issue is not unlike discussing religion with a fundie that threatens that a lack of believe/support that theology will result in eternal damnation.

It seems that this issue shares many parallel traits, only it's the subject of the faith that is different.

Anyone wants to know about tailings reductions can go to the suncor website, they explain it in more detail there. It's not rocket science either, they use the same process that most municipalities do to treat sewage before its released into*gasp* a river.
Funny peeps dont have a problem with that.

I do. Because the latter system has been known fail, monumentally.

The mouth of the Black River on Lake Simcoe, can not be dredged to remove the silt build up. Allowing residents along the river to navigate it once again. Because the silt is so heavily contaminated from a sewage treatment plant overflow. Any disturbance would cause severe contamination of the southern portion of the water body.

it works on the tailings, mft wont release water for many many years, thats why the ponds have been around so long, they wont evaporate with out the help of a poly floc for over 20 years, the idea is to get the mature fine tailings(clay particles) to settle.
