I've been waiting all day for a link I twice asked Flossie for this morning!
Sorry, link for what again?

So you don't see the end of the Maritime gravy train as fair? The bottom line is that this is a complex issue that is fair in some ways, and harmful in others (see Maritimes).

Yes,and he fishes off the dock. You ignorant fck,do you have any idea what a boat costs,or what it costs to maintain,or how hard and dangerous fishing is.You lot are the ones that think Canada only reaches as far as ,meby the Ontario border.
Reasonably close? LMAO!!!C.B.C. radio interviewed a woman from Nova Scotia the other night whose husband is a fisherman earning $50,000-$60,000 a year for 13 weeks work and collects E.I. for the other 9 months. She said he'd be quite willing to take work during his time off from fishing, if the pay was reasonably close.
I'm well aware of the overhead of a fishing boat, and the risks the industry faces.Yes,and he fishes off the dock. Does it matter? It was lame and stupid.Who is your post directed at?

Give farmers EI too if fishermen can receive it.

Trappers could use it too in summer months.
And not being able to collect EI for 9 months, after earning $50,000/60,000, in just 3 months, has nothing to with the risk they are compensated for, in that 3 months.

You're waaaaay off. You'd know the numbers on this Petros, what is the equipment cost to seed and harvest grain? We'll leave the costs of the land, fertilizer, pesticides, insurance and diesel out of the equation for now... Brand new - 2 tractors around $400k? Leased, around $12k a month? Am I in the ballpark?
Trappers could use it too in summer months.
Tractors (you need two), seeder, sprayer, cultivater, baler, 10 Tonne truck. You looking at 1.1. to 1.2 Million
For goodness sake, I get my vacation pay paid out once per year. If I want to take a second week at a later time, it is up to me to set aside enough for that to happen.
Somehow I manage. How can someone, as per the example posted, earn 50K in a 13 week period and not have enough to live on after that period ends?
Looks like you made a critical error in choosing to live in the real world.
Don't these guys go bat-sh*t crazy with nothing to do for 8-9 months?
The entire EI system needs a complete overhaul as far as I'm concerned. And not necessarily the way the current government is doing it either. They're taking the political approach which is to tweak it here and there, so as to balance out the potential votes come next election, and will likely leave it in just as much of a mess as when they found it.
Fuel, seed, ferts, and herbicides is around $125 an acre input costs.Ok.. So I was way low on that.
Add-in the material costs and I'm guessing that this # heads north by a minimum of 30%.
Yes, perhaps the Fed. Gov't. is trying to solve it using too broad of a brush. E.G. the rules about commuting, every case is a little different, some have cars, some don't, some drive, some don't, some have transit at their door, others don't. Some live in single industry communities and when they are unemployed there simply are no other jobs available anywhere close. On the other hand there are "computer" jobs that can be done at home, so perhaps, some money should go into training and setting people up so they can benefit in that regard. The possibilites are endless!
