How'd you feel about having him in your home and around your family?

.

No one has made me that proposal, but it wouldn't bother me too much if he was in the neighbourhood under supervision. We already have a lot of bad asses that are far worse than him. From what I understand of the military you do what you are told.

By virtue of the non-condemnation of his actions but the heavy condemnation of all things American.

Let's see, one shot 15 year old throwing a grenade at an attacking enemy that has just killed his father and friends compared to thousands of soldiers killing thousands of innocent women, children and elderly innocent bystanders. What do you think?

On this sentiment, I fully agree. That said, I think that the end result will be factions within some nations warring with each other internally. The concern here is that as the cries for assistance are heard, do we ignore them and mind our own business or get involved.

A catch-22 in my eyes.
Are you still living under the delusion that the government of Afghanistan asked us to go there? They didn't. Nato decided to go in there under false pretenses. It had nothing to do with humanitarian reasons.

Are you seriously under the delusion that that is the reason he should be denied entry into Canada?

No. I think he is probably completely FUBARed from being at Gitmo for all these years. I think he should probably under go complete psychiatric assessment. That is not what my point was about. I was responding to attitudes about enemies. As far as I'm concerned the whole Khadr affair is a smoke screen to draw attention away from the real crimes that we committed in the name of "serving" our country.

And the indoctrination by his father and family into Jihad had noting to do with it- Just a kindergarten for Little Terrorists is all it was.

Oh, and I should add, being brainwashed into thinking he was serving his religion by be there. A fifteen year old does not have the intellectual capacity to make those kinds of life choices without being coerced by his family and religious leaders. The bugger was FUBARed before he left Canada, possibly before he even got here.

I also think the same about any kind of patriotism that leads our youth to join the military.

I share Eagles response. But I have to ask. Are you aware that Omar and his family have despised Canada, for all you hold dear in her, and spent years training to be terrorists?

Are you aware that Omar took it upon himself to leave his father/family, to seek deeper and more militant training, for the expressed purposes of spreading Islam by force?

All when Afghanistan was just a place on the other side of the world and Gitmo was still just a pain in Castro's ass.

A fifteen year old does not have the intellectual capacity to make those kinds of life choices without being coerced by his family and religious leaders.
And yet he felt his father wasn't doing enough.

So, as usual we disagree. I still think this whole affair is a smoke screen.

JLM we often agree but when we don't we really don't. This kid was with his
family, his father and others, along side of the Taliban brothers in arms. You
are right he was just a kid, but a kid who didn't give a hoot about his new country.
The problem is we allow people to come here gain citizenship and then go back
to their former country and in many cases they act contrary to the principles of
this country. As I understand it, Khadr, his brother, now in a wheel chair and his
father were all involved. Nope I think he should go and live with those he
was allied with against us.

If he knocked over the corner Mac's, I'd agree.

You don't want to know.

Maybe I'm a bleeding heart, Bear, I have no way of really knowing what he's like now and I don't really know the exact details and circumstances of what he did then. Ten years have passed under pretty horrific conditions like water boarding. I just have a feeling if he was given a chance it may be better for all in the long run. BUT I COULD BE WRONG.

A self portrait?
You know what Cliffy, for someone who chides me for not being able to have a discussion, you sure do ignore questions far to often.

You do realize that questions, and their answers are part of a healthy discussion eh.

Where was the question in Smack's reply?

As for our disagreement, you seem to think he should not be let in and I think he should be assessed and given a chance if he passes the requirements. More than likely he should be in a psych ward but we don't know that yet.

I was referring to the questions I've asked you.

You've answered two, but those were easy, these are the two I really would like to read your response to...

All when Afghanistan was just a place on the other side of the world and Gitmo was still just a pain in Castro's ass.

The latter isn't a question, so much as it puts a time line into context.
