Perhaps Cliffy is simply pointing out that these cartoons stretch the facts (much in the same way as political cartoons did during the Cold War) to advance an agenda.

Propaganda
I don't see them being any differently than the works of political cartoonists.

I am sure Cliffy's reaction was visceral based on the intent of the cartoons. He is not alone in visceral reactions to a point of view.

I agree; they are not. Political cartoons advance a point of view.

With respect, I'd suggest that the extreme reaction of select Muslim groups to the Danish cartoons was visceral as well... The question is; does it make the reaction acceptable?

Certain Muslim groups rioted, issued death threats, fatwa-ed out of proportion. Cliffy's reaction is Mother-Teresa like by comparison.

Fair enough, however the principle still stands... Is it reasonable to label an opinion as hate speech by simple virtue as it representing a perspective that you do not support?

It is subjective. Hate speech is often as much in the ear of the listener as in the the mouth of the speaker. However, both listeners and speakers can up the ante on the march to war. That is an outcome few want.

You only have to go as far as Ottawa to see that what ever the people dealing doesn't like is bad, evil, hateful,or smearing. If you'er in charge, you get to make up the rules.

Too true.

I might offer that the first step on that path to conflict begins in the exchange of words.

Or is quite relevant, in particular Assad's comments on Terrorists. To some he is a real fine fella and just killing miscreants is the term most often used in the ME.

[Miscreant - formal : a person who does something that is illegal or morally wrong

Here is the simple fact, ladies and gentlemen.

Israel is the frontier of western civilization.........on the other side of Israel lies the barbarians.....the adherents of the lunatic death cult that is Islam.........the followers of a violent rapist, genocidal murderer, and pedophile named Mohammed that lived 1400 years ago......and they consider him to be an example.

Israel, as the outpost of our culture, our freedom, our civilization, deserves respect and support.

Not the back-stabbing stupidity of self-righteous idiots.

We are really discussing the art of rhetoric here, as each side builds its case for future discussion.
The Middle East is a very complicated place, especially when dealing with a family feud as it were.
yes according to the Old Testament the Arabs and the Jews are cousins and one group ended up
with all the family jewels and the rest got nothing.
In Syria, they have a leader who is a dictator and a despicable one at that, the only problem for the
west is the alternative the Islamic Brotherhood would be worse. In addition the Sunnis fighting the
Israelis on the Northern Boarder with Lebanon are supported by Iran. Therefore in terms of world
politics the present administration is preferred to what might follow. The Libyan and Egyptian
experience demonstrates the Islamic Brotherhood fills the vacuum as it were and that is not a good
situation for the west as they then have to prop up the enemy in the absence of stability.
As for Israel having the right to defend itself that is standard, however I have no doubt they are indeed
plotting a prospective attack on Iran, to take out their offensive weapons program. In the world of
international politics even and fair play are only relative terms, in the face of reality.

The alternative is this:

Wait and see IF Iran does use nukes. If so, retaliation in kind will be proffered.

Your choice as to the options, but IF Iran were to engage a nuclear attack, don't piss and moan about the consequences

Well, if we wait to see if Iran does use the nukes, think it'd be too late??

Honestly, wish the ME would either grow up, or keep their crap to their own countries, we pull out of helping any of them, and let them blow themselves up if they want to so badly. Build a friggin wall around all of it, lock the schoolyard brats in and then only open the doors when there's a clear reason to.

It's up to the people of that region to start to change, or want to change, not up to the rest of the world to handhold them. IMO they're suckering us all into their issues just so they can blame anyone but themselves for their problems.
