Attack on Iran would be ‘suicidal’ for U.S.: ambassador

Iran is capable of hitting U.S. military forces around the world if attacked by the United States, Russia’s Interfax news agency quoted the Iranian ambassador to Moscow as saying on Wednesday.

The United States has imposed sanctions, targeting Iran’s central bank and giving U.S. banks new powers to freeze Iranian government assets, which tighten international measures aimed at forcing the Islamic Republic to scrap sensitive nuclear work.

Interfax said the Iranian ambassador, Seyyed Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi, had told a news conference in Moscow that the United States would be making a mistake if it carried out a military strike on Iran, although Washington has announced no such plans.

“The Americans know very well what Iran is like and what our potential is,” Sajjadi was quoted as saying. “Iran is in a very good position to deliver retaliatory strikes on America around the world … An attack on Iran would be suicidal for them.”

Iran is full of hot air. While they might be able to hit a few US bases throughout the ME, the US response would be ten fold.

The US needs to go to the library and look up the word "sovereignty". All their threats and bullying only serve to give more nations and groups reason to detest them.

Yeah, starting with all those "Death to Iran" rallies we've been seeing across the U.S. Oh, wait.....

Here's an interesting page I came across today. I don't know what the origin is, could be an Iranian version of WoW for all I know, but still interesting. If anyone is familiar with the language it would be interesting to hear what the nature of this site is.

(English version is on the bottom half of the page)

Signs build that Iran sanctions disrupt food imports

(Reuters) - More evidence emerged of the crippling impact of new sanctions on Iran, with international traders saying Tehran is having trouble buying rice, cooking oil and other staples to feed its 74 million people weeks before an election.

New U.S. financial sanctions imposed since the beginning of this year to punish Tehran over its nuclear program are playing havoc with Iran's ability to buy imports and receive payment for its oil exports, commodities traders said.

Iran denies that sanctions are causing serious harm to its economy, but Reuters investigations in recent days with commodities traders around the globe show serious disruptions to its imports. That is having a real impact on the streets of Iran, where prices for basic foodstuffs are soaring.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak was in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, the latest leader of a major Asian oil importing country to visit the Middle East seeking alternative sources of oil as sanctions make it more difficult to import from Iran.

Danish shipping and oil company A.P. Moller-Maersk on Wednesday said it had suspended the transport of new Iranian oil-related cargoes and oil tanker deals due to European Union sanctions.

Traders in Asia told Reuters on Tuesday that Malaysian exporters of palm oil - the source of half of Iran's consumption of a food staple used to make margarine and confectionary - had halted sales to Iran because they could not get paid.

That followed news on Monday that Iran had defaulted on payments for rice from top supplier India, and news last week that Ukrainian shipments of maize had been cut nearly in half.

Anyone's capable of sneaking in under cover and blowing something up....

We have Hezbollah and Hamas in Canada - why not in the US. Iran carried out assignations of Iranian dissidents in Germany for a number of years. Any attacks would be minimal and as was mentioned result in more retaliation by the countries attacked.

Yup, they were already caught trying to kill the Saudi ambassador. CAIR is a Hamas front. There's an organization that's an instrument of the Mullah's (forget the name, think Reza Aslan) Lots of possibilities there.

Face it Eagle....the American government is the biggest bully in the world. If any country doesn't want to play by their rules they exert all political power and use veiled threats of force.

Funniest thing is that while the US is running around looking stupid trying to be the global policeman they are bankrupting their own country and population. Maybe they should get their own house in order.

Even funnier is, if they don't react, or intervene, they're heavily criticized for not caring, blah blah blah.

Carry on.

Hitler did a lot of positioning and threatening too, and yes there was retaliation for attacks
on Germany. In the end though it was the Germans who got the worst of it. Iran is making
these statements because they are scared as hell that Israel or America is going to attack
them and they can't deliver on their threats. When and if that happens the people opposed
to the regime will again rise up and America would have no choice but to defend them just
the same way as the actions in Libya. Iran is a nation where they have friends but even the
Russians know better than to defend them militarily. China won't either, they don't like the
fundamentalist Muslim states anymore than any other nation.
Countries who feel isolated and under pressure are the first to make outrageous statements
and America knows that.

I gotta put this up again....

If only McCain were President:

Bomb Iran (Paul Shanklin) - YouTube

Kinda catchy, really.
Ah, the simple-minded view; shoot first and ask questions later, yer with us er agin us, if we don't like it, bomb it.

A friend of mine was cruising an industrial site one night when he saw a light where he didn't think one should be. He radioed in and then went to investigate. He came across a silhouette that looked like it had long hair, shabby clothes, and it was holding something. He called out "police" and the silhouette turned around. Fortunately, my friend saw that the object the silhouette was carrying looked an awful lot like the silhouette of a broom so he didn't empty his pistol. It turned out to be the female janitor.

Evidence counts.
