At the beginning of this thread you were clearly attempting to make me out as a hypocrite. This opinion was based on your own ignorance. You were unaware of my positions on free speech, but you attempted to disparage me for them anyway. You've come in here, without any knowledge whatsoever of my opinions, bent on showing that I don't support free speech. That is both intellectually lazy and dishonest. You failed to prove your accusations. You even resisted calls to prove it. And now that I've shown you were wrong, which I didn't have to do, you refused to admit you were wrong. Instead you've invented some extra criteria. Demanding I provide an inalienable standard for free speech. Again, lazy and dishonest.

I don't have to prove a ****ing thing to you. Especially not after your behaviour. Show me you have some integrity, admit to and apologize for your failings here, pray to your god to forgive your dishonesty, and then I'll give you the philosophical argument you're asking for.

After rereading the thread on Terry Jones, I now know that I had you mistaken for someone else. So for falsely accusing you of hypocrisy I sincerely apologize. Apparently in my old age my memory can't perfectly keep track of who said what. :)

Still waiting for you to tell me where you thought the contradiction was... *jeopardy song plays*

Everything I said was correct and accurate assessment of the tool Ezra.

So now we are back to the strange state of affairs where I can phone everyone in the phone book and play a recording about how we should kill all the muslims but if I do it at the local mall I get thrown in prison...

How is that free speech exactly? Seems to me it just makes our justice system a bit of a mix and match.

Not sure what you're talking about, neither is legal.

Well, hate speech at the mall is a criminal offense, while hate speech over the internet is processed through the human rights tribunal to avoid the perpetrator becoming a criminal. Before section 13 of the human rights act it was actually not against the law to disseminate hate over the internet or the phone. The particular case was a man, in Toronto I believe, handing out cards that invited people to call a certain number. Once they called that number they would hear a tirade against Jews, if I remember correctly.

So repealing the human rights tribunal will put us back into the bizarre situation where I can operate a Canadian based website that says "Kill all of people X" but I would not be allowed to say the same thing in public. That is why I am confused as to how freedom of speech has been returned.

You still wanna have this inalienable rights discussion?

Everybody has the inalienable right to be a dick head as long as they don't make a public spectacle of themselves.
