Northern Ontario,
A well, I don't have time to look at all the post in this thread. **** happens.

Check this....this has been posted before too....but bears repeating...;-)

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten
comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like
this:

* The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
* The fifth would pay $1.
* The sixth would pay $3.
* The seventh would pay $7.
* The eighth would pay $12.
* The ninth would pay $18.
* The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the
arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

‘Since you are all such good customers,’ he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the
cost of your daily beer by $20.’

‘Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.’

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the
first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what
about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the
$20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that
from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end
up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would
be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he
proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:
* The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
* The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
* The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
* The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 ( 25% savings).
* The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).
* The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to
drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare
their savings.

‘I only got a dollar out of the $20,’declared the sixth man. He pointed to
the tenth man,’but he got $10!’

‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only Saved a dollar, too.

It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’

‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’

‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get
anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.

For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

I have no problem understanding this rich man's parable, but I also understand BS which is exactly what this is.

Ford 'disappointed' at court Occupy ruling
Afraid protesters will interfere with Santa Clause parade

TORONTO - Mayor Rob Ford said he is “disappointed” in a court order allowing Occupy Toronto to stay in St. James Park — at least for now.

The city was slapped with a court injunction Tuesday night ordering officials to leave the month-old protest alone.

“Obviously I’m disappointed ... I want to do my job ... My job is to respond to the businesses and people of the city,” Ford said Tuesday night. “What they’re doing is illegal ... I just want them to leave our park.”

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair said Tuesday night he wants some clarification on the court ruling. “I am concerned because we are going into a weekend when many events are taking place, primarily the Santa Claus Parade that is taking place on Sunday,” he said.

Blair said he hopes the matter can be resolved for everyone and “not interfere with the important things that are taking place in the city.”

‘‘The Santa Claus parade is very dear to my heart and I want to make sure it goes off without interference,” Blair said.

Tuesday’s court order keeps the city from forcibly removing the protesters but Holyday said he believes the city would have given protesters “every opportunity to leave peacefully.”

“Let’s hope there would be no attempt to interfere with the Santa Claus parade,” Holyday said.

Oh Ya! Santa is very near and dear to their wallets. The parade is there to promote mindless consumerism and Santa is a kiddie diddler.
Screw democracy, give us cash.

Pregnant woman pepper sprayed at Occupy Seattle

SEATTLE - A downtown march and rally in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement turned briefly chaotic as police scattered a crowd of rowdy protesters — including a pregnant 19-year-old and an 84-year-old activist — with blasts of pepper spray.

Protest organizers denounced the use of force, saying that police indiscriminately sprayed the chemical irritant at peaceful protesters.

The Occupy Seattle movement released a written statement late Tuesday expressing support for "a 4-foot 10-inch, 84-year-old woman, a priest and a pregnant woman who as of this writing is still in the hospital."

Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said he didn't have specifics on the Rainey incident, but he said pepper spray is "is not age specific. No more dangerous to someone who is 10 or someone who is 80."

He added, that if it were harmful, "we probably wouldn't be using pepper spray if that was the case."

Kappel said police had not yet established whether a pregnant woman was involved.

Paramedics examined a handful of people, including a 19-year-old woman who was three-months pregnant, Seattle fire department spokesman Kyle Moore said. The Seattle Times reported on its website that the woman was taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center.

Her identity and status were not immediately available.

Moore added that the protester's own medical response team had taken care of others.

"These protesters are well organized, they're using homemade remedies to counter pepper spray," he said.

Seattle police said plenty of verbal warnings were given to demonstrators attempting to block intersections and streets during rush hour.

"Pepper spray was deployed only against subjects who were either refusing a lawful order to disperse or engaging in assaultive behavior toward officers," Kappel wrote on the department's blog.

Some people actually believe the police serve the people and should be treated with respect. I'm not quite sure how pepper spraying 84 year old peaceful protesters is serving the public. Maybe one of the jack-booted...er...police supporters could explain it to me.

Ooooooooooooooh we are starting to whistle a different tune about the cops now are we? Pepper spraying an 84 year protestor is horrible, but booting Buddy Tavares' face in was perfectly all right! At least you are moving in the right direction.

Actually it's good to see all these charades starting to wind down. For three reasons. One it's the wrong people doing the whining and two they don't have an inkling of why they are whining and three none of them will do a thing for themselves to improve their own conditions. When you are drawing welfare (in B.C.) you are supposed to be actively looking for work.

Occupy Wall Street: protesters vow to fight on

The movement to protest alleged corporate greed and political dysfunction was thrown into crisis during a turbulent 24 hours on Tuesday that began with a surprise early morning police raid on the privately-owned Zuccotti Park.

Protesters then spent the day playing cat-and-mouse with authorities as they sought to re-establish their base near Wall Street, the symbolic epicenter of a movement that has inspired similar protests in other US cities and abroad.

In the evening, police reopened the park and let the protesters back in one-by-one - but only after a New York judge backed a ban on pitching tents, rejecting the demonstrators' legal challenge to the dismantling of the camp.

"No one will be denied entry," a police officer said at the gate, as people began to wander back in. Organisers put the number at 1,200. Once inside, the crowd began to chant: "All day, all week, occupy Wall Street."

Both sides were claiming victory after judge Michael Stallman ruled that the owners of the park and the authorities were not denying protesters their constitutional right to freedom of speech by banning them from camping out.
