Montreal QB Anthony Calvillo is approaching 70,000 yards in his long illustrious career. He has a great arm but doesn't have much in the way of lateral quickness. This is probably why he didn't play in NFL. Still, that is an awesome accomplishment.

There are basic role responsibilities in hockey but it's a little more artistic, whereas football is a choreographed X's and O's chess match. You can have a great set of players but unless they are coached to work precisely together they'll lose every game. Blocking schemes are far more complex as a unit than, for example, playing the trap in hockey.

I don't blame Wally. I think he's doing the best he can. I think Braley has put him in a real tough spot.

they can be coached to work precisely together, 'but don't', changes must be made to player personnel if
they can't or won't get it.

no I don't blame wally either, but I think he's up to the task, when the going gets tough, the tough get
going, nows the time.

the players have to be pretty fed up with their performances, and past the point of tightness, and at the
point of 'getting the job done', or else.

but of course roughriders are feeling the same, what is this called? 'Battle of the bums', shhhhh, don't tell
anybody I said that, just slipped out. lol

yeah, its fun to watch him, so smooth, but they have two losses in a row, how are they doing tonight, better
check.

He ran like Michael Vick when he played against Wally's Lions (ssh, I'm giving Talloola a hard time).

Right, football is a much more militaristic game than hockey. Football players march down the field and take territory. They have bombs and blltzes. I just like the mayhem I guess. I always thought football filled a social need here. That means if the commander of his troops on the field hasn't got them working together well, then the commander has to go. Generals tend to fight the last war, and that could be the situation with Wally. By by.

I like the game too, lots of strategy, I have lots to learn, but the general rules of the game are easy
to follow, and I will gradually pick more and more detail, if I need to, don't have to know all of the
'plays' to enjoy and understand the game.
Hockey has much more continuous flow, football, many stops and starts, doesn't mean one is better than the
other, just different, and that is good.

Its definitely much different than hockey. Yes, I suppose its similar to war plans, too bad all of the
wars aren't over after 4 quarters, with no one dead.

Opinions on Fred Stamps??

Not so sure about Ricky Ray this season....

As the TSN commentators like to say, Fred is Rickie's go to guy and currently leads the league in receiving yards with 578 catches to his credit. I think Fred is on his way to having another great season and would not be at all surprised to see him surpass 1000 yards this year.

Rickie is currently ranked second only to Anthony in passing yardage with 1,492. Next to Tony, I think Ray is the best QB in the league this year so far.

Montreal QB Anthony Calvillo is approaching 70,000 yards in his long illustrious career. He has a great arm but doesn't have much in the way of lateral quickness. This is probably why he didn't play in NFL. Still, that is an awesome accomplishment.

Anthony is a monster. He surpassed Damon Allen's all-time completion record last night with 5,159 to his credit now. Watching Tony on the field, one has the impression that it is all business when he plays. Other QBs could learn a lot from Tony by putting their emotions in a pocket and simply attending to the job at hand.

It will be interesting to see what Arland can do for the Lions. He was 3rd in the standings last year with 1,303 receiving yards for Hamilton. Schultzie gave him an on-air talking to last night on TSN - told him to grow up and start acting his age off-field. It was his personal life that gave him problems with his previous teams, so if he can shape up, he could be a real weapon for the Lions - here's hoping.

Another double-header tonight on TSN. The Edmonton Eskimos will be in Winnipeg to take on the Bombers at 4:30 PST followed by the Riders in Vancouver to meet the Lions at 7:30 PST.

Just watched Winnipeg > Edmonton. The game got testy at times but it ended up without any major brawls.

Swaggerville (aka Winnipeg) is rockin’ tonight and justly so – their Bombers just whupped the Edmonton Eskimos 28 -16.

It wasn't looking as bright in the first two quarters when the Bombers were held out of the end zone twice and Justin Palardy went 0 for 2 on his first two F.G. attempts.

Things started to turn around at 4:44 in the second when #43 for the Bombers recovered a fumble by punt kicker Damon Duval.

The Esks were again prevented from getting to the end zone but Palardy was finally able to connect on a 32 yarder.

The Bomber defense – best in the entire league – held the Esks to 2 and out and the Bombers got the ball back with just over a minute left in the half.

Unable to find an open receiver, Buck Pierce kept the ball and ran 48 yards for a TD. Coaches must wish they could bottle whatever it is that makes Buck run because it would be worth a fortune. This was the playmaker of the night and the Bombers never looked back.

As the tide turned for the Bombers in the 2nd it did so too for the Esks. Ray threw his first interception of the season but not the last of the game with just over 2 minutes left in the quarter.

A beautiful reception by Terence Edwards for a TD put the Bombers ahead of the Eskimos 19 – 16 at 7:06 in the 3rd.

Consistently solid play by the Bomber defensive squad left nothing for the Eskimo offense. Play after play, Ray found himself either running for his life or having to run himself as all the receivers were covered. Monsters, absolute monsters. Jonathan Hefley and Odel Willis – wow!

The Eskimos didn’t help their cause by wracking up too many unnecessary and extremely costly penalties. They also turned the ball over way too many times – a total of 5 times on the night.

At 12:26 in the 4th, Corey Watson picked off another Rickie Ray pass, the Bombers were held to a single point after a punt into the end zone by Renaud.

The Bombers Jonathan Hefley got his first sack of the game at 5:45 with a loss of 15 yards on the play for the Eskimos.

As the three minute warning sounded, the Eskimos took possession of the ball at their own 46 yard line. On the first play of the series, Ray was sacked again quickly followed by another as the Eskimos gambled and lost on 3rd down.

The Bombers added a single on their next possession when Renaud booted another through the end zone.

With: 54 seconds left in the game, Rickie was intercepted again and the Bombers got the ball back and just rode out the clock.

Winnipeg leads the league in points allowed and points scored against.

It was way back in 1987 when a Bomber team went 5 and 1 – quite an accomplishment for this still young team. Congrats Paul LaPolice!

Congratulations for a fabulous win and superbly played game. Rock on Swaggerville!

Greg Marshall has the deer in the headlights look about him.

You think? Gonna start on Greg now are you? I'll stick my neck waaaaay out here and state unequivocally that the Riders are not going to do anything about removing Greg Marshall as head coach. The Riders realize that having a new head coach and losing some key players means that it will take time to for adjustments to be made and positions to be locked in. It may take the entire season for this to happen and if so, that is fine with me.

The big disappointment on the night at least for me was the multiple misses on punts and field goals by Eddie Johnson - the team needs him to be much more consistent. He goes from kicking 55 yard punts in last week's game to missing on a 30 yarder.

No more questions in my mind about the ability of Darian to lead the team. When they needed him to step up, he did but he can't win the game by himself and two drops by Chris Getzlaf that could have led to big gains meant the team was unable to finish their drives.

The Lions outplayed the Riders and I congratulate them on their first win of the season and hope that some of the pressure is off Wally now.

Final game of the week will see the Hamilton Ti-Cats in McMahon to take on the Calgary Stampeders.

I was so relieved to see lions win their first one, should have been about their 3rd or 4th win, they
have played well enough to have those wins, instead of one.

Yes, Wally, who is their leaning post, and without him they might have really sagged by now, is off the hook, but their next game
is against winnipeg, and the way they are playing, no one is going to beat them, hope lions are up to
the task.

Geroy looked stellar tonight. Thought lions were going to sag again, but after a bit of a lull in the
3rd quarter, they came fighting back and looked strong at the end.

Winnipeg looked very good tonight, the catches were amazing, made pierce look much
better than he really is, just throw that ball in the general direction, and the
catch was being made, but that is what its all about, making those catches.
Pierce did have a good game though.

What Buck lacks in throwing ability he more than makes up for in heart and determination and his receivers are more than willing to go the extra yard for him - makes for some truly exciting plays.

Any team will have their hands full with the Bombers now. Their defense kept them in the running and now their offense is helping out big time. It is great to see teams that struggled last year coming to the fore. I think it is very healthy for the league and makes for more exciting games.

Will be interesting to see how Arland does against the Bombers next week - he can be a real threat as a look at this record confirms.

The Lions would be lost without Geroy, talloola but I am still wondering why we aren't seeing Paris Jackson out there - I loved watching him play.

Not sure about paris, I know he had injuries, not sure if he is fully ready, or that he just isn't in
playing condition, and because the lions were losing, maybe they didn't want to activate him yet.
Just assuming, not really sure.

Yes, I like that too, teams that people were writing off, 'showed up', everyone was making fun of edmonton,
now look at them.
They talked earlier about their new coach, and what he said to them before the season started.

We have a good team, and no one knows it, and they won't even see us coming, how right he was.
just paraphrasing, can't remember actual statement.

Stampeders fans were finally witness to a home win by their team last night as they beat the Hamilton Tiger Cats 32 to 20. The Ti-Cats were solid in the early going matching points against the Stamps to end the first quarter tied 10 - 10 then ending the first half with a 10 point lead.

At 9:13 in the 3rd, the Stamps again tied the game with an easy TD stroll to the end zone by Joffrey Reynolds.

A single off a missed F.G. attempt and three points off one through the uprights gave the Stamps a 24 - 20 lead going into the 4th.

Another single off a wide F.G. attempt by Paredes put the score at 25 to 20 for the Stamps around the 13 minute mark of the last quarter. Calgary would go on to score one more TD late in the second half when Jon Cornish would stroll into the end zone for six more and the convert made it 32 - 20.

It was a game that saw not a single turnover as the result of a fumble or interception until the final 23 seconds when Kevin Glenn tossed one to the waiting arms of Eric Fraser, his first interception of the season.

Hank finished the game with 27 of 39 completed passes for 341 total yardage to move into 8th spot in all-time passing yards. Kevin Glenn went 20 for 34 and 211 passing yards.

In other CFL news, leading CFL receiver Fred Stamps of the Edmonton Eskimos underwent emergency surgery on Saturday and will be sidelined for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Fred leads all other receivers with 5 TDs, 33 receptions and a total of 619 yards on the season.

Darn, I forgot to tune into today, talloola.............sounds like it was a good interview. Thanks for the update. You are right about our teams. It will be interesting to see if they both rise to the occasion.

Its the 'Lion's Den', on every monday afternoon, listened again today, reid, suter and pratt, reid and
suter are excellent to listen to, such good comments, pratt just chimes in now and then to make his
trivial comments, its his show, so guess he's allowed to do that. lol

A pretty good 1/2 a game for lions, they forgot there are 2 halves.

can't take away from how good winnipeg defense is, but lions allowed
themselves to be humiliated in second half.

not sure what happened there, perhaps there has been so many player
changes, they are like a new team, who don't know each other yet.

hopefully a better game next time.

Turnovers and penalties, talloola.........too many of both. They were going up against the best defense in the CFL right now but that does not account for the mistakes made by the Lions. That 69 yard TD by Harris was nullified by a holding call on the Lions then the too many men penalty limited the Lions to a McCallum field goal - just an example of how costly penalties can be to the team. Take heart, tallola.......it seems that the former underdogs of the league are getting their day in the sun. The rise of other teams has to come at the expense of someone and right now it appears that your team and mine are the ones doing the paying.

The most exciting game of the week, IMHO, was the one between the Argos and Ti-Cats. Both teams gave as good as they got and it was only in the final minutes of the fourth that the game was decided. Great win by the Ti-Cats.

The most boring game of the week had to be the Montreal vs Edmonton game. Rickie Ray was effectively shut down and got little protection from his offense while Anthony just kept hitting more milestones - becoming the 4th QB to reach 400 TDs and breaking the 70, 000 passing yardage formerly held by Damon Allen.

After going three games without an interception, Darian threw one that cost the team a TD when Keyon Raymond intercepted his pass to run it all the way back for the 4th longest CFL interception TD in the league. The Riders didn't roll over but the Stamps were not to be beaten and the final score was 45 to 35.

Better luck to both our teams next week, talloola.

yes, those penalties are very irritating indeed, and so costly. Don't know lots of the rules in football,
but I can't understand why the rule allows a player to run all that distance, when the flag was thrown
immediately, what a waste, 'why' don't they blow the whistle like they do in hockey, and kill the play,
as it was 'dead' anyway as soon as the flag was thrown.
That was a great play, very exciting, then so deflating when it is over, and one would want to immediately
choke the player who caused the problem.

Guess Wally's head will be called for again, but I still don't agree with firing him, all that does is
'punish' him, and satisfy the groaners, but does nothing to make the team win next game, or any after that.

yes the hamilton/toronto game was very good, watched most of it.
