Easier transition with Miller still there. If I was a Rider fan I'd feel a lot better with Miller at the helm.

You betcha, Kreskin. I like Ken's coaching style and his rapport with the team. Don't know what will happen re Barry's position but whatever happens we may now have a chance to win a couple of games.

Go, Riders, Go.

If there is an obvious 'problem' with the communication between coach and player, then I certainly agree
with a change, and yes, the fact that he is still part of the organization, and has been the coach
previously makes it smooth.

In wally's case, I know that was 'not' the problem, the players were making silly mistakes over and over.

I suspect they'll have Fantuz back before Labor Day, so he'll help reignite the old system as well.

Good on BC for their win over the Argos. Travis looked confident and relaxed under pressure and some of his throws were incredible - try throwing an accurate pass as your body is in the midst of a turn - way to go Travis Lulay. Of course I would be remiss if I didn't mention the unbelievable record of Solomon Elimimian - he is the keystone of BC's defense. And not to forget the continuing excellence of Paul McCallum - his contribution to the team cannot be discounted. Well done Lions.

The Argos on the other hand went from being a contender in the 1rst to complete disarray by the 4th with momentary intermittent lapses of competition in the 3rd and last quarter. Cleo Lemon was replaced by Dalton Bell in the second half and threw back-to-back interceptions in his debut. Barker kept him in the game and he eventually settled down after a few successful hand-offs to Corey Boyd - why they didn't have more of a running game with this guy on the team is a real puzzle. I don't put all the blame on Cleo as his receivers had a bad case of dropsy for much of the game. Jim Barker has a big problem on his hands and I hope he is able to solve it soon or all the early promise of the Argos will go for naught.

Swaggerville will strut into Riderville this afternoon and my 93-year- old Mum along with my sister Ginny and various other members of the family will be there to cheer our team. Apparently there have been billboard battles between the two teams helping to fuel fan rivalry. From what I have read about the adverts, they were in better taste then a billboard put up by Eskimo supporters in Calgary.

This will be Ken Miller's first time back as coach since he replaced Greg Marshall. I know that some fans, myself not included, are expecting miracles from Ken but I simply want to see the old Rider team back. That team was a unit whether they lost or won - they did it together. I did not see that same unity this year and I always felt that there were undercurrents of dissatisfaction within the ranks. I also felt that Darian often felt confined by the plays called on the sidelines and that given the opportunity could have made downs himself as he so often had proven. I had expected more of our defense given the background of Greg Marshall but that didn't happen. Ken cannot perform miracles but he has the proven ability to motivate and I do expect to see a much more motivated team this time out.

News is that Andy will be back with the team next week which will really put some fire in the bellies of new recruits hoping to retain their positions. Now if we can only get Chick back - well I might just start thinking that all bets are off.

Go, Riders, Go. Be looking for you Ma.

Sask 27 - Winnipeg 7................Beauty!

It was only one game but what a game it was.......the Riders won convincingly against the Best in the West! I guess what surprised me the most was that the Riders were able to score points against the much vaunted Winnipeg defense and shut down Buck Pierce too.

Dallas Baker and Effrem Hill had outstanding performances as they helped the team march down the field in pursuit of much needed TDs. Chris and Weston came through in the end zone and Chris Milo iced the cake. The effort might have been helped with the presence of Andy and Omar on the sidelines cheering our guys on - it certainly did inspire some of the rookies who know that with Andy's return they had better show their stuff now if they want to keep playing for the team.

Winnipeg fans will have their chance to roar next week as the two teams meet in the Banjo Bowl.

Go, Riders, Go!

The CFL might be moving toward a situation 'where' no one knows who might win any game, no dominant team.

love it. (especially being a lions supporter) lol

Crazy weekend. Ham beats Mon and Edm beats Cal. Calling those and the riders on sports action would've made a few bucks.

One trend is the Lions are winning and every team they play becomes the worst in the league.

You got that right, Kreskin........Dave lost $50 bucks to Schultzie (TSN CFL commentators) betting against Edmonton.

Never thought about that but you are right.

Fabulous weekend of football especially if you were cheering for the 'underdogs' as I was though I guess the Ti-Cats couldn't really be called underdogs as the Als were struggling coming into the game. Still, beating the Allouettes was a must for the Ti-Cats and they did it in fine manner with a 44 - 21 victory over the reigning Grey Cup champs - great offense and defense by the Hamilton team.

The Edmonton defense was the story of the game against the Stamps. The Esk offense more or less just took advantage of fumbles, interceptions and penalties. Hank had 4 turn-overs in all before he was sidelined in favor of Tate who couldn't do much better with the Esks having a 28 point lead already in the game. Calgary played undisciplined football and their QB lost his cool when fans started booing him - not the mark of a professional and I am sure Huff had words with his number starter after the game. Final score in Esks game: 35 - 7.

I like that Miller lets Durant call the plays. More coaches should do that, especially with experienced QB's.

The Swagger in Winnipeg has been downgraded to a stumble, there ain't no swagger
like a Rider kicked Swagger. It is going to get interesting real fast here. The riders
gave the Lions a head start and now we will see what happens here.

Riders look very good.

They sure did, Kreskin. Ken Miller has definitely motivated the team. And, as you mentioned in your following post, letting Darian call his own plays has really made a difference. When he can get out of the pocket and either pass or run, good things seem to happen for the team. But the big story yesterday was the defence. The rookie Craig Butler is a great asset for the team - a real play maker. Don't have my notes with me but I think the defence forced something like four turn-overs yesterday and the Riders scored points off all but one of them. Also the fact that the Riders are now finishing their drives with majors has made a difference. Jamie Boreham joined the team last week as a back-up kicker for the Riders but don't know how much play he will see as Chris Milo has a really great leg. Another difference in the team is that most of our players are now off the injury list and back on the field contributing in a big way.

Didn't really know what to expect yesterday except a close scoring game what with the previous defensive record of the Bombers. That the Riders were able to shut them down was a real win for the team and will give them momentum going forward.

Our next meeting is with the Argos and unless Jim Barker can come up with some magic solution for the problems facing his team, we have a pretty good chance of taking that game too.

Rock on Riders - Way to go team.

The Eskimos are in Hamilton tonight ready to take on the Ti-Cats. Both teams have had their share of problems lately so it will be interesting to see which team bounces back first. Game time is 4:30 PST on TSN.

Tomorrow the Argos will be in Riderville trying to stop their slide down the standings. Surprise, surprise..........I am pulling for a third win in a row for my Riders.............Go, team, go! Game time is 1:00 PST on TSN. Immediately following that game, the Lions will be in Calgary to hopefully keep their streak alive. Game time, 4:00 PST on TSN.

Sunday will see Montreal play the Bombers but I don't have the game time yet and will post it later.

GO, RIDERS, GO!

It was #80’s 24th birthday yesterday and Chris Williams made the most of it with a 93-yard kick return TD, one of only two TDs scored by the Cats last night. The 5’8”, 155 lb Williams is having an outstanding year and is in line for a possible nomination as Rookie of the Year in the CFL.

Unfortunately, Chris aside, the Cats were severely out-performed by the Eskimos last night. Jerome Messam ran for 140 yards and scored two TDs to take his team into a tie with the Stamps for top spot in the West. The ground game was the story of the night for the Eskimos who had lagged in that department in their last few games. They had a total of 223 rushing yards on the night.

The Ti-Cat defence was porous to say the least – missed assignments and tackles left gaping holes that the Esks capitalized on time after time. Rickie Ray, with great pass protection, was able to hook up for 25 of 32 passes and 226 passing yards. Fred Stamps caught 14 passes for 130 yards and came within two catches of tying the all-time number of receptions in a single game.

Kevin Glenn had a less than stellar night with on 14 of 23 completed passes and one interception. Quentin Porter eventually replaced him in the 4th and managed to take the team down-field for 91-yard scoring drive with an Avon Cobourne TD. Too little, too late for the Cats who went down 38 to 23.

In other CFL news, the Blue Bombers will be in Montreal to play the Als on Sunday at 10:00 PST on TSN. And, Craig Butler of Saskatchewan was named the Canadian Player of the Week for his contributions to the Rider win over the Bombers last week.

GO, RIDERS, GO...............let's capsize the Toronto boat!
