This veiled threat by our "Illustrious Leader" will probably mean there will be someone new in the White House in 2012. How more stupid can he be.

Obama said in an interview with U.S. television network CBS that checks to recipients of the Social Security retirement program may not go out in early August if he and congressional leaders do not agree on a debt deal.
"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue," Obama said, according to excerpts of the interview released before its broadcast.
"Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Obama said. He said veterans checks and disability benefits could also be affected without a deal.

I hope I am wrong, ironsides - truly, but I doubt that putting someone else in the White House is going to change the fact that the U.S. is printing more money than they are bringing in right now. Bush was the one who drove up the debt, yet it is Obama who now has to deal with it.

You are dead right. The financial mess world wide is caused by people demanding a standard of living the world can not afford. Of course the main reason why this problem will never get resolved in a sensible manner is because the people who are running the financial show are abusing it the most. Look at the guy in charge of our Ferry system. Absolutely criminal and he knows it.

Oh don't get me started on the fat cat salaries of crown corp CEOs - or the pensions, or the benefits, or the car allowances. I hear they are talking about raising ferry fees by as much as 50% - fifty percent!!!!! - soon it will be only the rich who can afford to cross the water- no wonder so many people on the islands rarely go off-island unless they absolutely have to.

One of the biggest problems facing the world is the small percentage of people who own all the wealth - they have no conscience and no ties to any country - their allegiance is to the almighty dollar and nothing else. Not making enough dough in Canada or the U.S.? Hell just pack up the company and move to a country where the tax laws are lax and employment is cheap. They care not about their fellow citizens or their country unless they see that a buck can be made.

Bush DID indeed drive up the debt. Obama came into office and drove it even higher.

From a January article....

When Obama took office the debt was $10.6 TRILLION... it is now $14 TRILLION.

Again... that was from 6 months ago.

Was driving the debt even higher the smart thing to do?

Your right, who is in the White House won't really matter, but you do not make a idle threat of cutting off Social Security and Veterans Compensation. As EagleSmack mentioned it won't happen, but there are a few old folks who will get scared of the possibility. Another president threatened to do it a few years back (I forget who), but it never happened then either.

The Administration is forcing the issue on raising taxes... any taxes. That is all they need. If the GOP goes back on the no new tax promises they could very well be screwed come November 2012. I do not care who wins the White House... it is control of Congress... both houses which is important.

If a Republican does win the presidency... The Democrats will most likely claim that the mess he is in is from what Bush left in 2008... not what Obama did in his four years.

And why cannot taxes be increased for high incomes?

What good would it do except as a moral booster, there aren't enough so called rich to effect our deficit. Tax them to much and they move their money to another country where some have already moved their business's. Now increase taxes on companies that have already out sourced to other countries, might work, and reduce taxes to those who bring business back to the U.S.

Since I've been excoriated, bashed, maligned and called a racist bigot for criticizing Obama

Criticizing Obama is not why you've been bashed, maligned, and called a racist bigot, and you know that all too well.

Asking 'would you want your daughter to marry one' is but one example of why you've been called a racist bigot, and that had nothing to do with Obama.

It wouldn't be wise to get on that "slippery slope". Some of those high incomes are for tasks like brain surgerin' or transplanting hearts. You don't want those guys indescriminately deciding they deserve a coffee break, "after all I've been at it an hour".

First, quote where I actually said that.

Second, I don't give a damn what you call me, I have been called worse by better people than you.

I hope The Washington Times is not considered to be 'sleazy' publication, right-leaning, though it is. Having read this article, I promise I will never spell the Presidents name starting with a '0'. Instead, I will your the same respectful terminology liberals used for eight years for President George W. Bush, and from now on, it will be Carter Jr. or Jimmy Jr.

I don't think ANY of the media print or otherwise is particularly reputable, and I'm not speaking so much about accuracy, but more the connotations they manage to contrive. Task #1 is to sell a story. I don't know what kind of people they are but it's obvious there must be lots of them who just gobble up the most bizarre stories. Like a mother grieving after her family has been wiped out and the reporter asks her how she feels!!!!!!!!!!! Seen and heard that sh*t countless times.

I didn't call you anything. You're not that important.

Let me use my memory:
Avoid calling people racist. NOBODY likes EVERYBODY. Do YOU? Would you be happy your daughter marry someone whose skin colour is different from yours/hers?

Avoid calling people homophobes, xenophobes, rednecks, extremists, etc. without due diligence in self-reflection. Again, public figures are excepted.

Now there all calling each other baby's over raising the debt limit. It was Obama who took his toys and walked out saying he is not going to budge a inch about cutting taxes or reducing what we spend. They must reduce spending first before considering raising debt limit.

Getting the GOP to give in and raise taxes is the goal. That way in November the Dems can use the "Read my lips" attack that worked so successfully for Clinton.

The economy and debt ceiling is an afterthought.

The GOP will have to give up and probably will on some of the tax breaks companies and corporations get. I am beginning to wonder what would happen if they did raise the taxes for the so called rich to what it was during the Clinton era and got those 45% or so who pay no taxes to start paying something, of course all this would have to be tied to reductions in programs (exempting Social Security, Medicare and Veterans benefits.) Basically what I am saying is get more of this 300 million or so we have contributing. But once they stop blustering and start talking the debt ceiling will be set and our economy will come roaring back.

If they do, they are screwed. Just like Bush Sr. found out. In order to get some of the things he wanted passed he gave into the Democrat controlled Congress and passed their new taxes.

Then they slammed him with his "Read My Lips... no new taxes."

Mark my words.
