I know plenty of people who got corporal punishment in school. They had it removed for their kids for a reason.
My parents gave the belt. They were also part of having it removed from the schools. What goes on at home and what goes on at school are two different issues and arguments. One is a parent who knows a child closely, the other is a stranger hired to teach.
You got that right Karrie, it was jackie boy, jlm, and talloola's generation that did away with corporal punishment. They introduced the world to the likes of Doctor Spock. They helped bring the government and their child service agencies closer to the family home.
and as for my comment about teachers being strangers, they are, as you have reiterated. Regardless of jackie boys contentions about "meeting the teacher", they are still strangers. I know next to nothing about the teachers that taught my kids aside from what they chose to tell me during interviews. I had no say which ones taught my kids, and I had limited say as to HOW they taught my kids. I sure as hell wouldn't give ANY of them permission to use corporal punishment on my kids.
