Have been busy commenting for the Canucks on various newspapers this morning, trying to buoy up those so-called fans who are dumping all over the team. Just love bandwagon people - they are soooooooo predictable. I must admit, I had my own little lapse of faith after game 4 but listening to Team 1040 yesterday got all my mojo back and I am so ready for tonight's game.

I'm a bandwagoner and I'm not ashamed to say so. The Vancouver Canucks are mostly neither from Vancouver or Canucks (though they have more Canadians than any other nationality). They are foreigners and non-Vancouverites hired by an entertainment company pretending to represent Vancouver. Now, Vancouver is a multicultural city, and I would be all for Americans, Swedes, Finns, Quebecois, etc. being accepted as members of our community and playing hockey for our amusement, but let's be serious: most of them are probably just visiting.

So I don't really feel the same community association with the team that many city residents and other British Columbians/Canadians do. I'm a bandwagoner in that I support the team and watch the games when they play well, or in other words, when I can be entertained. Despite not believing the Canucks truly represent my city, I still get that sense of community because everyone else here believes they do, and I can join them in that collective emotion. When they win, I can cheer with my neighbours, but when they lose I can detach myself and not feel bummed out like everyone else. Being a bandwagoner is the best of both worlds. Look down on me if you want, but tonight after the game I'll be in a good mood regardless. Even if we win, the rest of the city will be worried about the Canucks collapsing again in the next game. I'll mostly be worried about paying for the night's food and drink.

Wouldn't that be the same for really any pro team? I doubt the Red Sox have anyone from Massachusetts, the Patriots maybe have one, and the Bruins I am sure are all from Canada save a few here or there.

But they are representing your city. Just my 2 cents.

But I agree with you on at least one point, win or lose I'll be in a good mood. I'm not getting paid extra if they win. It will be fun to be a part of the celebration but if the B's lose the series life will go on.

you are obviously detached whether you are on the bandwagon or not, not a canuck fan, or a hockey fan,
just someone who wants to be part of some excitement, and if that excitement goes away, you will look
for some other type of excitement. enjoy yourself.

chris tanev is in tonight, and ballard is out. I have mixed feelings about this move, I know he is
an upcoming top defencemen on this team, I love the way he plays, as a young and quite new guy, but
I sure hope some boston player doesn't run him right thru the boards, good luck chris, we'll be
cheering for you.

I would think so, yes.

But they are representing your city.

So they say. But I've already explained why I don't feel they do.

No matter who wins this series or what transpires between now and the end both have accomplished a lot and will have nothing to be ashamed of. Even if Boston blows out Vancouver two more times is has been a helluva run. I certainly hope the Canucks can squeak another out. Man, two games at a chance to win the cup .. talk about games with something to win.

If the Canucks win the Cup the Conn Smythe trophy should go to the Presidents Cup. Having home ice the entire playoffs is worth the price paid for it. One less road trip per series and forcing a team to beat you on home ice is an advantage not to be taken lightly. That being said I can see Thomas getting the Conn Smythe no matter who wins.

yeah, that was tense for sure, and yes, I would love for them to win in boston on monday, just
to rub it in their faces, bunch of morons.

chris tanev played awsome, what a good young defenceman.

I was disgusted with the 'diving' call against burrows, we watched the replay a couple of
times, he did not dive.
If anyone actually tried to dive 'bakcwards' it would be quite comical, and difficult to do properly.

Why are we a bunch of morons? Why would you want to rub it in our faces? That's not very polite.

I was disgusted with the boston team, in boston, those are the morons, it would be sweet to win it
there.

a little sidenote:

hansen, and two other canucks were in a restaurant in boston, ordered their lunch, waited for over
30 minutes, then the waiter came over to them and said, "sorry we are out of food", a bit moronish
I would say, they had to leave, and try another restaurant.

Boston always has had the reputation of being "upper crust".

I don't exactly know why but as Lu stopped puck after puck when the Canucks were taking penalties, I began to relax and feel quite good about the game, even though no goals had been scored. To see Lu so confident and able to stop shot after shot while the team kept going after Boston, was really sweet.

As has so often happened in these play-offs it was yet another Canuck who stepped up and got the goal. Rock on Maxine, nice going guy.

Thought we had our usual bit of a slump - just a blip - during the second but the 1rst and 3rd were ours. We out-hit Boston and didn't give them much quarter in the neutral zone during the 3rd. The Canucks obviously benefit from skating on firmer ice whereas Boston doesn't seem to be bothered by any type of ice - a mark in their favor, considering our return to Boston.

Don't know what will happen in Boston but we hold the ace card by having the final game here at home, knowing that I am confident that we will be able to bring the Cup home.

Good game, Canucks - Congratulations guys. GO, CANUCKS, GO!

Well most teams whether they be hockey, football, baseball etc. etc. are made up of players from places other than the hometown, Corduroy so I don't really see your point there. However, from what I am reading you don't invest the emotional component in the sport that many fans do and are thus able to maintain a certain distance. Nothing at all wrong with that - as you say it is just entertainment.

In my post, I was referring to the so-called fans who do cheer for the Canucks but only when they are winning. When the team loses a game - they are the first to jump all over them and start calling them bums and other nasty names - and I am NOT talking about constructive criticism here - just outright nastiness and stupidity, like calling Lu the worst goalie ever.

What with all the media stupidity going on after the Canuck's last loss in Boston one might have thought the stands would be mostly empty in Rogers Arena last night and the crowds almost nonexistent - NOT. From all reports, the crowds were larger than ever and the stands were packed, so much for the media having any idea what is really happening in the minds and hearts of fans - looks good on them.

Thought it was nice of Julien to state that the Canucks were the better team last night - he got that 100% right.

GO, CANUCKS, GO! :canada:
