BTW, Islam provides for no punishment for the perpetrators of honour killings.

Seemed pretty obvious to me that someone who would stone a girl to death for participating in a beauty contest is an extremist. If that was your intent perhaps you could supply a link where some Christians drop bombs on people for attending beauty contests.

Are you for real? I don't care if the standard in the world was to choke someone alive with a rubber chicken, murder is still extreme. 15 murders in Basra a month, out of a city of nearly 2 million....is still a lower murder rate on an annualized basis than Buffalo New York, and three times lower than the murder rate in Baltimore.

The reality is that some people will reinvent the meaning of words and wind up looking ridiculous.

Ahhh....unfortunately, not all Muslims here drop honour killing as an acceptable practice.

Although the vast majority do, so an honour-killing Canadian Muslim could be an extremeist.

In Saudi arabia, honour killing is sanctioned by law, and often acted on by the state......that means it is not extreme, it is expected.......anyone with a functioning brain above that of a circus chimpanzee would recognize that simple truth.

I can get why people want to clarify that this isn't a 'them' issue... that all religions/nationalities/etc. perpetrate some wrongs. But, the focus here really needs to be the denouncement of the stoning to death of women, no? Deal with the KEY issue first... it is not okay to kill people just because you disagree with the way they live... and then qualify it with the fact that 'we're' not immune to it.
