I have very limited knowledge about these matters but I do know that when Sharia law is practiced it is done with righteousness and pride openly. It is not a secret event for the purpose of it is to teach the wrongdoers how to be proper Muslims - or else.

Having just read the OP I have a 'comment', what happened that the one that came in 7th was the one singled out for 'punishment'? Do the 'killers' really represent the 'will of the people'. In any major western city this would be a mugging/rape/murder type of crime where stalking was how the target was chosen.

Which Muslim countries count it an honour killing? The fact that these young men tried to summon the spectre of honour killing is clear, but, even in Muslim countries, taking someone out, raping them, and then beating them to death before trying to hide your crime, is not considered an honour killing.

Is it deplorable that there is even such a notion as 'honour' killing? yeah. But, I just don't think it really factors in the way people think in this case.

No attempt is being made to link it with Islam. It is being linked to an extremist element of Islam. Sharia Law is just that. whether this pig of a human being is an Islamist or Christian is irrellevant to the fact that he is a scumbag and if his intention was to institute Sharia Law then he is most definitely an extremist.

If not, then the fault and deception lies with him.

I started this op and did not point a bony finger at Islam, but from the outset that was the knee jerk reaction and accusation.

We can not screen the minds and souls of the people we let immigrate to this country. We also can't predict what will happen to their views once they are here. They may change, from pro-killing to anti-killing, or the other way around. All we can do is make sure that our laws uphold human rights.

Even within our own populace, we have people who do not see human rights the way our laws define them. People who will violate the rights of others. We deal with them via the law, it's all we can do.

We have a couple of mechanisms to screen people so that they accept our way of life;
-people who enter must agree to abide by our laws and if they don't, we can turff them out
- we have a screening mechanism to determine people's views before they enter.

So if sharia law was forbidden to be practiced in Canada, then we would have a mechanism to turf those out who do or punish them accordingly.
Also, this send a clear signal to those who may want to come here and practice this form of religion/community law.
