When you decide to ramble on some tangential thought, can you not quote me before doing it? This doesn't have anything to do with what I've been saying and I get alerts telling me you "replied" to my post when you made no real reply whatsoever. Thanks in advance.
Take this thread off your alerts, it's a month long and you don't think the are any items to be concerned about yet. No use tring to keep you updater really

Later.

Now it's officially been a few hours? It doesn't matter that so many of you were wrong about this for a month. You still got your Chernobyl II which, let's face it, is exactly what you were wishing for.
This is the part that makes it apparent any reply is a waste of time, ..... entirely. 6 reactors are in trouble because of the wishes of a few posters. What I wasn't wishing for was a troll. Oh well. Here kitty, kitty, I have a nice bridge for you.

I can speak from experience when I say it's not rad going over 20 rads.

(100rad = 1Gy)

The plant was a goner the instant the pumps failed. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of how a reactor works knows excess heat is bad. Especially when it's unexpected, hit by a near record 5 minute quake then trashed by a tsunami, fire and explosions.

Go figure?

2 Things

1.) Don't expect the general public to have the slightest knowledge of how a reactor works
2.) Properly advise the public about the reality of the situation

Last I checked Chernobyl has been and is currently being encapsulated and isn't in partial melt down. At least the Japs can turn to the Ukrainians on how to deal with this a little better.

The Chernobyl disaster needs repair before it fall is on itself releasing a lot of radioactive dust. They should be leaning from Japan os start using that same resin they are using in the hopes of stopping dust from blowing around. Japan might be trying to figure out how to get sand under the melted fuel as that is what slowed down the 'blob' at Chernobyl.

So once they hastily bury Japan's problems they can come back some decades later and patch up the defects. Who says this generation doesn't leave long lasting monuments?

At some point they have to start bailing in the sand and ???? if they keep getting quakes. Sand is what stopped Chernobyl from getting past all the concrete in the basements. If one lets loose the whole area will be too hot for humans to maintain the others. Dumping from the air only worked because the reaction stopped and radiation stopped enough that longer exposure was allowed. Prior to that they would have run out of pilots and choppers before the task was completed. Do that by 6 times in Japan and the crane and the search worldwide of big pumps that can pulp anything from water to concrete.
Still not one word in the Media about hemp being used in the Ukraine as a way to cleanse the land of contaminants. lol Obviously the disasters are not being fought tooth and nail using any/all methods.

I get alerts telling me you "replied" to my post
I meant to ask you if your alert is via email and if it is could you get a text sent to your cell if you used your phone's email address? Something like this site promotes.

Radiation detected in milk from Montpelier cow

Montpelier, Vermont - April 11, 2011

Milk from a cow in Montpelier is showing signs of radiation.

The Environmental Protection Agency says it discovered trace amounts of Cesium-137, a by-product of nuclear fission, in the animal. State health officials do not believe the radioactivity is the result of recent fallout from the nuclear crisis in Japan.

Officials with the Vermont Health Department tell the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus that trace amounts of the radioactive isotope have been detected in Vermont milk before.

UPDATE - IS THE TOKAI REACTOR OR TOKAI/JCO NUCLEAR FUEL PROCESSING PLANT IN TROUBLE?

Radiation map of Japan. 4-13-11

Webmaster's Commentary:

The real time radiation monitoring by prefecture showed radiation levels in the city of Ibaraki going from 639 to 2040 over a period of 12 hours March 20th!

However, Ibaraki is 83 miles from the Fukushima power station!

But there there are two nuclear facilities right next to Ibaraki. One is the Tōkai Nuclear Power Plant, which has one operational reactor and one decommissioned reactor, with an undetermined status of the spent fuel rods. The second is the Nuclear Fuel Processing Plant owned by JCO. It seems unlikely that radiation from Fukushima is the sole reason for the continuing radiation surges at Ibaraki, without corresponding increases in other cities within 80 miles of the Fukushima reactors. One must wonder if there is damage to the nuclear facilities at Tokai that is being suppressed because it is so much closer to Tokyo than Fukushima, or simply left unsaid whlie the media focus remains on Fukushima.
One thing is obvious from the continuing radiation spike; something bad happened somewhere in that area!

UPDATE: Confirmation of problems at Tokai-2 reactor, March 13, 2011.
The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said a cooling system pump stopped operating at Tokai No. 2 Power Station, a nuclear power plant, in the village of Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture.
UPDATE 2: Tokai Reactor has had prior criticality accident. The JCO Nuclear Fuel Processing Plant has also has a prior criticality accident.
Update 3: April 2, 2011. I find and load a free app for my iPhone that shows real time radiation levels collected by an ad hoc network of science enthusiasts with radiation meters. This is what the screen shows.

The tiny radiation symbol towards the top of the display is the location of the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power station. Since the area surrounding the Fukushima plant has been evacuated, it makes sense there will be no radiation readings in that area. Yet to the south we see an obvious hot spot where radiation readings are much higher. It turns out those higher radiation readings cluster around Ibaraki and in particular the nuclear power station located at Tokai! Taking a look at the same data through a Google Earth View, we again see a high radiation spike.

In the following framecap, the location of Fukushima relative to the radiation hot spot is indicated with the green arrow.

It should be obvious from this data that something bad happened or is happening at Tokai, which is much closer to Tokyo. Aside from the initial report of cooling failure on the 13th, there has been no reports at all of conditions at Tokai. Yet the raw data suggests all may not be well at that facility.

That would explain the main cause of the article below rather than the proposed cities being more quake-proof. I wonder how the non-government people feel about being left in a city that may fall with a quake under 7.5?

(in part)
The main conditions the new capital has to provide are a population over 50 000 and a sufficient capacity to accommodate the parliament, the government, the Emperor's residency and the foreign diplomatic missions.
According to experts, should a 7.2 magnitude earthquake shake Tokyo, the casualties will be around 11 000, some 210 000 will be injured and the material damage will be worth about USD 1 B

I had to use the microwave, to pop the popcorn I'm munchin' on in the other thread.

So I'm still not worried about the sky fallin' just yet.

I see this as much ado about nothing. There are different strengths and types of nuclear sources. The levels being quoted in the oft unreliable media is just hype. Yes, this is serious. Will it affect the West Coast of the North American Continent? If it does it will very small in nature. There are three types of rays that could be emitted from a nuclear source. Alpha, Beta and Gamma. There are also life of the nuclear source measured in terms of half life's. Chernobyl emitted all three types of rays and used materials which were much stronger than the strengths used in this particular generating power station. So far in terms of measurements of radiation levels being 100 times as high as normal is probably true. But what is "Normal?" I saw the Emporer of Japan at the site today on the media. He wore no protective clothing that was visible and you can bet that as revered as he is in his homeland no one would allow him in the area if there were a threat to human life.
