Unlike this?

Victims, activists urge Canada to stop asbestos exports - thestar.com

Equally as bad as the lead tainted children's toys.

The difference as I see as I have the option not to buy Made in China (although I know that severly limits my options) but I still have that choice. But when I read the above, I feel like, as a Canadian, this is being done in my name, you know?

We're getting paranoid, when we were kids we played with "toys" that were 50 times more dangerous than anything on the market today.

Poison toothpaste then. They exported that too. Or the tainted pet food.

Bottom line I think is that we, as consumers, need to be better aware of where our consumer goods come from and how they are manufactured and we definitely need to be conscious that our own nation is purposely exporting a material that is banned here.

Also, not sure I'd want the little monsters running around today to have a slingshot or bebe gun either.

One product today that is a "swear word" is asbestos, BUT many people don't know there are two types of asbestos- one detrimental, the other benign.

Canada,
I think the world can survive without China's "plastic crap" but a lot of countries in the world wouldn't survive without our wheat and agricultural products.

Unfortunately our government, at times, is confused about the true nature of the Canadian economy and certain intellectuals want Canada's population to boom to 100 / 200 million but don't explain how we could sustain a population growth as we have no domestic industry and resources can only be stretched out so thin.
The Indian peninsula is rich in resources but it doesn't amount to much with 1.1 billion inhabitants.

China makes much more than just plastic crap. And they just recently announced that they are now going to focus more on domestic than exports. China has grown tremendously, reducing much poverty and producing a larger middle class. Other Asian manufacturers are already growing faster than China due to the cost of labour.

It's not a question of "if" the world can survive without China's exports. The world wanted China's exports.

I think if people had to choose between their jobs and cheaper products than they would have choosen the former. However, the Unions in North America went a little too far and corporate companies instead decided it was easier to send the manufactoring jobs to China, where union workers are not throwing a strike every other week, and keep the office jobs here.

The unions figure it's better to be unemployed at a higher hourly wage.

That's not where the choice is though. It's at the cash register, and most will purchase the cheaper alternative.

Even the Liberal Party of Canada; well known for its' "nationalists" like Trudeau, bought their "not Harper" shirts from Central America.

Our beer is bad. Molson and Kokanee are considered to be Pißwasser (piss water) but the Yanks drink the imported stuff like it's gold.
