They buried their poor husband and father wrapped in all their bedding? The province pays for poor widowed mothers to buy bedding because it's considered a necessity. There are also CPP orphan benefits.
Yep, I'm afraid maybe we've gone from giving people a hand up to giving people hand outs. It's gone from one extreme to the other, I can remember when we were ashamed to ask for help, now it's gotten to where it's an entitlement.
And it's attitudes related to this that perpetuated the shame that people felt for matters outside pf their control...it's simple math, the cost of basic household goods is rising, faster than many wages are. The market doesn't have an infinite number of high paying jobs... Yet you would have us believe that people no longer feel stigmatized by using food banks and other forms of aid that they need. Maybe you should try working in a food bank like Avro, or talking to some university students who use them, as well as raiding supermarket dumpsters.
The Tides Foundation is one answer. As researcher Vivian Krause revealed, that San Francisco-based foundation alone gave Smith $310,000 to fight the oilsands. Five U.S. donors alone have poured $190 million into Canadian anti-oil and anti-forest lobbies in the past 10 years.
If the roles were reversed -- if Canadians spent huge sums interfering with U.S. domestic a airs -- Congress would convene hearings and our ambassador would be summoned.
This isn't about whether
Kent should be re-elected. It's about who gets to decide if Kent is re-elected: Canadian citizens, or U.S. billionaires.

I just want to know how much the Tides Foundation gave to reforest Madagascar and stop their oil sands? The lemurs are homeless. The Tides Foundation is one answer. As researcher Vivian Krause revealed, that San Francisco-based foundation alone gave Smith $310,000 to fight the oilsands.
I don't recall saying there aren't people such as you've mentioned.
Yup. now it is generations who are on handouts. I think Gov. Scott of Florida is going to limit free welfare by forcing those capable of working to do jobs for the state after a period of 6 weeks (not sure of the time period) or so if they want to continue to receive checks. I think it is a great idea and a cost saving measure for the state.
Are they going to fill in all the ditches the last make work program dug?Yup. now it is generations who are on handouts. I think Gov. You didn't leave any room for the middle when you said people used to be ashamed, and now it's an entitlement. I have my doubts that the majority of people using food aid are doing so because they feel entitled, as opposed to using such charity out of necessity.
Are they going to fill in all the ditches the last make work program dug?
Ezra's wrong, Canadian environmentalists do get involved with American politics, without much fuss. Read about the transgenic salmon produced on PEI, by Aqua Bounty, and the petitions to the FDA. The Council of Canadians was in Maryland, voicing their displeasure at the FDA appearing to side with AquaBounty that the transgenic salmon posed no human health risks.Speaking of US style politics, and the environment....has anyone seen this?

I await the expected howls of outrage....like when the bogus accusation that the NRA was involved in Canadian politics....
I'm such an optimist.
Don't they have fine option in BC where people work off their speeding tickets and summary convictions in lieu of time in PCC by picking up garbage or painting picnic tables?:lol: I walk the local streets and roads every day and I can tell you there is enough garbage on each route I walk to keep a dozen people busy for a day or so picking it up.
Nothing secret about it, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been after President Obama since he took office.U.S. Chamber Launches Covert Attacks on Their Political Opponents
Earlier this week, president Obama met with the US Chamber of Commerce to talk about the best way to create jobs in America. He told them that it was their patriotic duty to spend the trillions of dollars of cash reserves that they’re sitting on and create jobs. In the same breath, he told them that it was his duty to make sure that the government did everything possible to make businesses more comfortable and ensure that they have the perfect climate to rebuild our economy.
And the whole time that Obama was trying to break bread with the US Chamber, they were carrying out a secret campaign to infiltrate, discredit, and destroy liberal activist groups.
The folks over at ThinkProgress have uncovered emails from the Chamber’s hired men that detail the numerous ways in which the Chamber is trying to take down their political opponents.
From ThinkProgress’s Lee Fang:
“According to e-mails obtained by ThinkProgress, the Chamber hired the lobbying firm Hunton and Williams. Hunton And Williams' attorney Richard Wyatt, who once represented Food Lion in its infamous lawsuit against ABC News, was hired by the Chamber in October of last year. To assist the Chamber, Wyatt and his associates, John Woods and Bob Quackenboss, solicited a set of private security firms — HB Gary Federal, Palantir, and Berico Technologies (collectively called Team Themis) — to develop tactics for damaging progressive groups and labor unions, in particular ThinkProgress, the labor coalition called Change to Win, the SEIU, US Chamber Watch, and StopTheChamber.com.”Through a number of different private security firms, the Chamber was trying to discredit the work of labor unions like the SEIU and Change to Win, activist groups like US Chamber Watch, and even investigative journalists like Brad Friedman.
These so-called security firms began obtaining private information about anyone who opposed the US Chamber in an attempt to take them down. Among the more atrocious acts uncovered so far: They sent home addresses and photos of a Change to Win employee’s wife and children, and mentioned that information was needed on his attendance at a DC area “Jewish Church.”
Another plan discussed in the emails was to try to create fake financial reports about the US Chamber and send them to the folks over at Chamber Watch. Once that group reported on the fake documents, emails show that the Chamber would then release the real documents in an attempt to show that Chamber Watch can’t be trusted and that they make up information.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been on the forefront of lobbying against legislation to control greenhouse gas emissions or legislation that would have spurred investment into alternatives to oil. As DeSmogBlog reporters detailed in the past, the Chamber helped parrot GOP talking points regarding cap and trade, they poured millions of dollars into campaign ads attacking climate legislation, and held meetings with Republican Senators to insure that climate change legislation wouldn’t pass the Senate last year.
As this story continues to develop and more emails are released, be prepared to find environmental groups being attacked as well. The US Chamber’s member corporations have a lot to lose if Americans begin waking up to the truth about climate change, and the activities of groups like DeSmogBlog are more than likely being kept under watchful eyes.
