Some people just don't understand personal accountability and responsibility.

Hence their steadfast need to promote the nannystate.

Some people need that kind of perpetual maternal guidance... It makes me wonder if they were the kids on the block that had to wear a hockey helmet at all times up to the age of 40

Can you imagine the frustration they felt when that helmet stopped them from licking the yummy windows?

Unfortunately, it didn't stop them from eating the paint chips. Now we'll need a panel to work on that.

Poor kids.

We had a sodium panel?

Sort of. Consider it as job creation for insiders that were owed.
Since nutritional information is on just bout all prepared foods we don't need a bunch of overpaid bureaucrats to read them to us. Figure that if it is ready toeat or fast food it has too much salt and nitrates to be healthy.

If someone is really concerned about the amount of sodium in their food or food choices being
offered, can one not just read the label? I have type two diabetes and I don't need a council
to tell me what I should or should not eat. There are much bigger problem areas to solve if one
is concerned about the food they eat. For example how many people know that the Organic
Industry is nothing more than a mountain of paper work and you have no idea whether or not the
food labelled organic is or is not organic. There is no scientific testing to prove the quality or in
fact the content, and there is non scheduled on site inspections either. I don't hear anyone
being outraged about that. There is supposed to be monitoring that never happens, perhaps
because we had a sodium committee to interpret a law that says how much salt I can eat.
Who the hell comes up with all these groups that determines how I am going to spend my days?
Its time we got rid of a lot more of these useless groups and put the money into health care the
way it should be.
A sodium panel indeed. We all know the world needs more regulations to govern our lives.

Why have the FDA or food inspections....we can all make our own decisions.
Bureaucrats need something to do while building their little personal empires within their bureaucracies. Man, if we did away with all the useless jobs in government, just think of all the no brainers that would be out of work. Our economy would crumble.

No, we need more common sense and knowledge about what we season our foods with. There should not be a ban on salt, or any generally used spices (generally used by most chefs).

We don't need the FDA or have food inspections except to make sure that what we eat is good quality. But just as a guiding service, not forcing you not to eat that rotting piece of meat, not forcing you not to eat or not eat anything. Doctors can give us healthy meal plans to follow.

This is exceptionally unfortunate.

I propose a series of meetings of the Health Canada Special Investigative Panel on the Reconsideration of the Government of Canada's Decision to Disband the Sodium Reduction Panel -- and just as a check on the role of these investigators, we need to ensure that the Health Canada Special Investigative Panel Ombudsman (Sodium Reduction Decision) is appointed as soon as possible by the Governor-in-Council, after holding a few town hall meetings to gather a shortlist of qualified candidates for the job. Of course, it wouldn't be appropriate for the minister to make a decision on that shortlist without first referring it to the Public Appointments Commission.

What's next -- disbanding the Exploratory Commission on the Improvement of the Quality of Life in Relation to Organic Vegetable Access for Postal Code Groups V3W Through V8E?

The prime minister should resign immediately!

You aren't seriously comparing the Canadian sodium panel to the US food and drug administration, are you?

Besides the obvious, if one were to read the sodium panel's objectives on salt, and Health Canada's objectives regarding food and drugs, one couldn't even remotely equate the two. Not to mention, the sodium panel is a redundant group. Made so by Health Canada. Whom already covers sodium intake and mandates informative labeling.

But hey, why let that stop the mindless Harpo bashing.

This is exceptionally unfortunate.

We can be our own panel:)

1) All freezer to oven food is loaded with salt , i dont buy it

2) sorry to have to say this but RESTRAUNT food is another one... they can hide as much as salt as they want ,and you have no way of knowing just how much salt is in the food prepared

3) always read the labels if do have to buy fast food in a box

Nope, according to nut jobs like John Stossel we don't need entities like the FDA, we can trust the private sector in what drugs we can take.

Anything more is just nanny state mentality.
