If you think for a moment you may come to understand that very few of us can escape being religious fundamentalists. Rather than the narrow common meanings of those two words we can with ease expand to cover you or me.

As the caterpillar said to Alice, “The question my dear is, who is the master? When I use a word, it means precisely what I want it to mean.”

So no doubt we could alter the meaning of the word Fundamentalist to be applicable to all of us. But why? What is the point in it? Currently the word Fundamentalist means somebody who takes literally what is written in some book (usually a religious book), tries to live that way and tries to get the rest of the world to live that way.

What is wrong with this meaning, why would you alter the meaning to include everybody?

You are of course a religious economic and political fundamentalists

I am all of that (a religious economic and political fundamentalists)? How do you figure that?

Original sin is something religious Patriarchs dreamed up to have power over the masses. The doctrine of original sin is truly horrible, we are all judged guilty even before the birth, without a trial.

I would like to rephrase that - hopefully with JLM's approval: Yet they get executed, even before birth, in their mother's womb, without a trial.

Feels good to quote (at least partially) the KING of all hypocrites, SirJosephPorter, wherever he might be.

Does anyone think that he bailed here, because he did not want to eat crow seeing the results of the American Elections on November 2nd?

taxslave, only in YOUR alternate universe a living human child-to-be does not exist.

Aren't you glad your mom did not think(?) the way you do?

WTF did you ever require my approval? Hey Y.J.- Sometimes it's best just to let "sleeping dogs" lie. (Mind you if he did come back it might take your mind off your second arch enemy (hint- he lives in the White House)

JLM, misquoting someone is the epitome of irresponsibility. I would never change anyone's words if and when I quoted them without their tacit approval.

Obama has earned any and all my aspersions in spades and more.

Y.J.- Sometimes it's best just to state your opinion and let it go at that. Like you there's one or two subjects I have a strong opinion on, but realize after all it is still only an opinion. There is no bigger waste of time and energy than arguing about politics or religion. There is very little substance to either one of them.

The original and perpetual sin in the eyes of about 1.5 billion people in the world is that the rest is not Muslim.

You are incredibly ignorant (retarded?) if you think that every single muslim believes that the rest of the world must convert to Islam.

You are incredibly ignorant (retarded?) if you think that their Quoran does not tell them exactly that.

Sanhedrin 59a: "Murdering Goyim is like killing a wild animal." Nidrasch Talpioth, p. 225-L: "Jehovah created the non-Jew in human form so that the Jew would not have to be served by beasts. The non-Jew is consequently an animal in human form, and condemned to serve the Jew day and night."

recenty rabbis in israel used to torah to justify committing genocides against arabs/palestinians and recently claim that gentiles exists to serve jews and in the male orthodox prayers they thank god for not making them a gentile, woman nor a slave

Islam does not teach that we are born condemned sinners. It does not place the blame on Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve were the first humans to sin. But God Almighty forgave them , Because He is the All-Forgiving One

It says in the Quran.

“Then Adam received Words (of forgiveness) from his Lord, and he accepted his repentance. Verily, He is the One Who repeatedly accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.” (Quran 2:37)

It is a lesson of original forgiveness and not original sin.

it is human nature to sin ,we are not angels The Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, said:” All children of Adam repetitively make mistakes, but the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent.”

So its all about repentance , God doesn’t need someone to die in order for Him to Forgive. God forgives whomever He wants and He loves to Forgive

In Islam we believe that everyone is born upon the natural state of belief .This natural state of belief is called the “Fitrah

The Prophet peace be upon him said every new-born child is born in a state of fitrah. Then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian ect

so that’s why when someone accepts Islam , we prefer to call him or her a Revert to Islam instead of a Convert, because they are returning back to their Fitrah,( their natural state of belief)

In Islam we believe that everyone is responsible for their own sins , God Almighty says

No person earns any (sin) except against himself (only),
and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another (Quran 6:164)

Islam recognises that all children, whether born of believing or unbelieving parents, go to Paradise if they die before attaining the age of discretion.

Salaam.

Can someone explain me the notion of Original Sin? I simply don't understand it.

This question is primarily focused on the Christian notion of original sin. But any type of opinion and contribution is welcome, be it from a atheist, Christian or any other point of view.

Please stick to the subject though...

I always thought the original sin was about eating an apple off a tree we were told not to eat, which made God rage like a drunken wife beater in a trailer park and laid down all kinds of punishment and anger on us.... all because we took a couple of bites out of a damn apple from an apple tree.

Frig, it's a damn Tree God, it'll grow more apples..... but NNnnoooooo..... he decided to toss out a pile of more things we do he considers as sins, and made our lives for the rest of eternity much more difficult...... all because we ate a damn apple.

And people complain about humanity's anger issues. :-?
