I have been watching this too, it is quite a show really. I think its one of those
events people will remember the first miner coming to the surface.
It shows what people can do when we decided to do something constructive
instead of backbiting, bitching and killing each other. It is a good day for
mankind.

Talk about good news!
I've been glued nearly all nite to the television watching the few "inch" upward knowing they have another day and a half of this procedure hoping the cage will hold and all will
go well for every last man down there.
With all the grime and crime we are exposed to in the media, it is soooooooo good to see
positive news, good planning, great work by rescuer specialists in their various fields and to think of the elation the families must be experiencing is more than I dare think about.
Talk about good news!

As someone who worked underground for almost eight years, I feel sympathy and kinship with the miners.
The closest I ever came to their experience was when I worked at Leitch Gold Mines in Beardmore, Ontario.
The main shaft reached 7,400 feet depth, and then there was about a half a mile walk to the "winze", another shaft, still being deepened, following the ore-body.
One day as we finished our shift and walked over to the main shaft, we discovered that the hoist mechanism had broken down, and we were given a choice to wait until it was repaired or take the ladder in the shaft to the surface.
Of course, it was nowhere near to what the Chilean miners must have felt.

This article will be dismissed by the phony Nature Boy and anyone else who think this is nothing but a "propaganda deal" but read it anyway. Also read the comments. And answer a few questions:
What would Obama have done if the accident had happened in the United States? Would he have reacted the way he did to the Gulf Oil Spill?
Would he have insisted that only government agencies can perform the rescue?
Would he have actually known what a MINE was? After all it's not a topic at Harvard.
Would he brag about the success?
Would he stop his desparate across the country jaunt to save doomed Democrats?
Fwe more questions, but you know what I mean.

That rescue operation was very slick. Original estimates predicted the miners would be out by Christmas. BBC says the entire rescue operation took 21 hours and forty four minutes.
The worst thing must have been the first 17 days with no contact with the outside world. They had a day's rations with them and
they made them last for 17 days.

There have been so many disastrous mining stories over the years, it's wonderful that they
all came up alive, which is not usually the case.
This is a 'feel good' ending to a very tragic event, it shouldn't be interrupted with empty
political garbage, which doesn't belong here.

Unfortunately, Talloola there are sick people in the world that just can't accept happy events without trying to find a black cloud or an ulterior motive or something sinister (sorry Dexter & Bar). Obama seemed like a breath of fresh air but within a few months people couldn't refrain from bad mouthing him before he even had a chance. Now the head honcho of Chile is being denigrated for no valid reason. A lot of it just boils down to the fact that losers hate success. :smile:
