It's taken me a while to find out where it all went wrong.

Maybe this isn't news to others, but it was for me.

How Canada Was Secretly Given Away

Excerpt--
Please take the time to read this important information to understand how Canadian citizens have been lied to on the issue of Free Trade from the beginning. An interview with Shelley Ann Clark extracted from the book NEW WORLD ORDER CORRUPTION IN CANADA, by Professor Robert O'Driscoll now out-of-print. Shelley Ann played a key role in the 1987/88 Free Trade Negotiations in which Canada's future was secretly bartered away...

The documentation we now have is that in 1972 Mel Hurtig was a candidate for the Liberals. He had also been in association with the Canadian Institute for International Affairs [NOTE: Canada's "twin" to the CFR in the States]. He was on a programme following recommendations of the Bilderberger meetings that had been held both in the Laurentians and in Vermont. When you link Mel Hurtig directly with the New World Order Gang, you arrive very quickly at the reason why he was where he was during the recent election. He was delivering the Canadian West to the same group that Mulroney and his Gang had given away the rest of the country to.

Then you have Bill Loewen. We have evidence that Bill Loewen, who owned a company called Comcheq, sold his company to the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce For $16O million just a year before the election. I would be prepared to bet that Bill Loewen sold his company for $150 million and got $10 million from the Bankers to set up a political party with one purpose - to remove the free trade dissent from the NDP party in the West so that the Liberals would be able to squeak through.

I found this in the midst of the linked document and these statements are patently untrue.

Mel Hurtig ran in1972 with Pierre Trudeau's Liberals. In 1973, he broke with the party and joined with other Canadian Nationalists such as Walter Gordon, Jack McClelland and Claude Ryan to establish The Committee for an Independent Canada. He served as Chair for the first year. This organization lobbied against foreign investment and cultural imperialism

Mel Hurtig and Bill Loewan started the National Party of Canada in 1993, 5 years after the signing of the FTA and specifically to contest the 1993 election and oppose NAFTA, which overrode the FTA. The intent was to provide a party dedicated to economic nationalism, without all the social engineering baggage carried by the NDP.

Mel Hurtig is a passionate nationalist who among many publishing projects created the Canadian Dictionary. Bill Loewan contributed $4MM of his own money to the party. The party got 250M votes but failed to win a seat in that election. The National Party soon fell apart amidst bickering and factionalism, and a falling out on policy issues between Hurtig and Loewan.

You can rightly accuse them of being bad administrators and poor politicians, but to link them to the Bilderbergers and the Free Trade movement is poppycock. There were many shenanagans and bamboozling going on with the passage of the FTA and NAFTA, but neither of these guys were part of any conspiracy.

You can look directly to Brian Mulroney and Jean Chretien, the two worst Prime Ministers in Canadian history, for lying to the nation, profiting personally and selling out the country with these Free Trade agreements. Both of their administrations, Progressive Conservative and Liberal were in lockstep on Free Trade. The revolutionary restructuring they imposed on Canada were tantamount to treason.

Yes, Said1, very interesting!

Thanks, coldstream, for setting straight some of the document. Some of those names.....I had no clue! I can agree re Chretien and Mulroney, though!

(There's a photo online, didn't bookmark it, with Chretien and Trudeau at a Bilderburg meeting. All the Americans were named [written right under their faces] but no label for our two PMs.)

The Americans knew what they wanted when they negotiated the FTA. They wanted Canada - Mulroney did his best to give it to them. Prior to the FTA there existed the Foreign Investment Revue Agency. Its function was to insure that any foreign takeovers of Canadian industry were in Canada's long-term interest. Needless to say it no longer exists.

Turdoh was for worse than Cretin. Our relatively strong economy (see here) is because Mulroney got us into the NAFTA.

Strong economy!!??.. are you on drugs, Walter

Free Trade, Monetarism, Deregulation and Privatization. all of the tenets of Economic Liberalism, profoundly contravened the National Economic policies which had built Canada from Confederation.

Here we are 22 years after the signing of the FTA. The revolutionary paradigm set in place by Mulroney and Chretien is still in effect. The country is increasingly de-industrialized, its scientific and technological infrastructure being dismantled.

We have the first generation in perhaps its history that is substantially poorer than that of their parents. Single income families, lifetime employment, pensions and benefits have become things of the past (MP's excepted!).

The empty aphorisms of the 'knowledge economy' have replaced that of the integrated industrial economy. The latter's high wages and high expectations have been replaced with transient, dead end, low paying service jobs for all except a small segment of highly trained specialists in abstract disciplines.. perhaps 20% of the workforce, leaving millions in the dustbin of the New Economy.

Our 'progress' now means our children must compete with the most desperate Maquilladora Free Trade Zones, the other half of the Free Trade profit equation, for productive wages, the real legacy of Chretien's 'Team Canada' trade junkets.

Canada is left in the tidal wash of a chaotic international financial order where greed infused derivative instruments of no productive value can devastate the lives of millions. We have been laid bare to the fangs of the wolves of international finance by their running dogs in government.

We have seen a vast polarization of wealth. A steady drumbeat of repeals of social guarantees, so hard won, to ensure an equitable sharing of the nation's wealth. The taxation system has become regressive and consumption based (another forgotten campaign promise of Chretien's).. slanted toward an ever narrowing, parasitic and grotesquely rich oligarchy that is picking from the spoils of an unravelling society.

I debate who our worst Prime Minister was, Mulroney or Chretien..their administrations were both mired in corruption.. but i usually side with Chretien because the little merde de poulet from Shawinigan lied to us repeatedly and then renigged on ditching NAFTA and the GST. Mulroney was sycophantic petty ideologue, but Chretien was truly amoral, someone completely without any political principles.. just a nose for what he could sell to the public for success.. regardless of the consequences to the long term sustainability of the country.

I have ambiguous feelings about Trudeau. He was the last economic nationalist in the PMs office, except John Turner who was only there for a matter of weeks. It was he who set up FIRA and a host of programs to promote a sovereign Canadian identity. He was a fierce fedaralist, taking on and subduing the grasping provincial potentates and their insatiable demands for more power.. again the last of this type in office.

He also imposed the Constitution on us which in all practical terms set up a unelected and unaccountable judicial tyranny of the intellectual mediocrities that inhabit the High Courts (especially Bev MacLachlan, the 60's era feminist Chretien appointed to Chief Justice).

Trudeau did it because he was fixated on Quebec separatists unilaterally declaring independence or persecuting the the english speaking minority, but the real result was that we saw marriage reduced to an absurdity, and the killing of unborn infants declared a human right.. and the moral relativism and radical individualism of the New Age become the pervading spiritual ethos of our society.

Trudeau was far from perfect and all of this is on his ticket, but compared to the political sludge that came after him, he was a godsend.

Canada was secretly given away? For anyone who was paying attention at the time, it wasn't much of a secret.
Therein lies the crux of the problem, Dex. Very few people pay attention. That is why they got away with giving it away. Gordo Campbell has been doing the same thing in BC for the past ten years but you don't hear a peep out of Vancouverites or anybody else much.

An interesting read for conspiracy folks and down the page there is reference to Trudeau, Chretien, Martin, and Harper attending before they became P.M. ....according to the Globe and Mail:p

Only a secret to those that were not old enough to read the news at the time.
Free trade could have benefits for many of our industries like forestry and mining if various federal governments had not screwed us with various deals like the softwood lumber agreement to protect the Auto pact which did well for vote rich Ontario and Quebec at the time.

The website that the OP links to reminds me of the lefties that populated the cafeterias at the unis I attended in my youth; a lot of talk but not much said. Most of them became professors or overdosed and ended up in the morgue, either way, none of them contributed much to society.
