Canada hosts the G8 summit this summer in Huntsville, Ont. and has championed the plan to bring basic health services to the poorest of pregnant women and children, mostly in Africa.

I really don't care what some other leaders in the G-7 think. If those groups are so interested in setting up abortion clinic; let 'em!... No one is stopping them just like no one is stopping YOU from funding abortions in which ever nation that you like.


... And protest all you like, the reality in this issue is that Canada's role is NOT to run around imposing it's beliefs/practices in other cultures around the globe.

What you neglect to recognize is that I too am a "citizen" of this world and I have as much right as you to abstain from having my interests, money and resources applied to the whims of every fringe group that hollers about "what ought to be", the inequities of life or someone's perceived entitlements.

How can you expect someone that has limited reading comprehension skills, if any at all, to fully grasp the concept and ramifications of what they are about to undertake?

Oh, quite so, Socrates. According to this crowd, anybody who criticizes Harper about anything is the Spawn of the Devil (and I am proud to be the Spawn of the devil).

And you are quite right, of course. Many other nations have blasted Harper for his right wing extreme policy. Canada is pretty much isolated in its Fundamentalist Chrisitan, anti-abortion stance.

I am sure you know the prolife motto, life begins at conception and ends at birth. It doesn't matter if the mother dies, as long as she does not have an abortion. Incidentally, prolifers also don't care what happens to the baby after it is born. It is OK by them if it dies of starvation, as long as it is born.

There is a prime example of the *$#@#%*^@$* encountered in this forum- the man made it perfectly clear in a one sentence post where he stated the "UNBORN" ones.

I don't see anything in that quote about fundamentalism, Christianity, right wing, anti-abortion, etc.

What I do see (from the link in the OP) is a commitment to:​


  • Training and support for frontline health workers.
  • Better nutrition and provision of micronutrients.
  • Treatment and prevention of diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, and sepsis.
  • Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
  • Family planning.
  • Immunization.
  • Clean water and sanitation.
This seems to be more than nothing, without pushing ideologies upon other nations
that may be against their laws, beliefs, religion, customs, etc...

If at a later date, they accept other services that Canada is willing to offer,
then that will be a mutual choice.
