Considering that is where the royal law comes from why do you condemn it? (posting verses) Think how few posts there would be on this thread if only verses were allowed.

Christians aren't any better at following the two Laws than Israel was at following them when they numbered 10. That defect is not on the writers of those 10 commandments which would seem to cover social conduct in any Nation. The ones specific to respect for God is 'fixed' when the time for interaction begins, most people will not like God's solution to that 'problem' but it is effective and one correction is all that will be needed.

Herald is still under the impression that he can turn people around, it doesn't work that way. The first ones saved do not have to be dragged into belief. The 2nd group will have wished that dragging would have worked.

i don't take issue with people posting verses - I take issue with people posting verses and then essentially saying that - well they've told you the truth, you should believe it. No discussion on what they feel the verses mean, the background, just, 'here is the truth, you should believe it'.
THAT'S my issue with people posting reams of religious verse.

Hate to(well I don't hate to say this, as I love archeology and anything written that supports archeology is AWESOME!!!!)say this, but actually archeologically, the bible is proving to be less of a 'myth' than many believed.Yup - a lot of stories in those books, but people spoke differently back then and had different frames of reference. The archeology of the Bible is much like the archeology of Troy. Everyone thought that Troy was a myth, until Schlieman got his paws into it and went excavating. the Bible is much the same. And by the way, when I say 'bible', I'm not talking about a religion. I'm talking about a people.

You're absolutely right, but the tough part is not knowing what to fully bellieve or fully disbelieve but the grey areas in between (and the black area that Jonah saw inside the whale):lol: Some you can take literally, and some figuratively. Hey, I can read, but I don't need these self appointed translators ramming stuff down my throat under the threat of "going to Hell" Noah's arc may have been a little hyperbole too.

I figure that the almighty gave me a brain - din't care less what gender I was, but was only concerned with how I used said gift. Do I use it to actually think? Or do I just accept what someone else tells me? I'm thinking that any self respecting deity would prefer the worshippings and admirations of someone who actually thought about what they gave, rather than some mindless drone who gave 'praise' just because they were told to.
but hey, I'm just some old 'feminfidel'. what deity would want the thoughtful worshippings of someone like myself?

Can you be a little more precise? What about Jesus?

Not without looking it up but I guess it's obviously New Testament. I like it because it's simple, it makes sense and it works (for me) and it takes care of having to worry about any of the Commandments.

It actually predates the New Testament.
"Love your neighbour as yourself, I am the Lord" Leviticus 19:18
Jesus was an observant Jew, he wasn't a Christian - he wasn't teaching anything that hadn't been taught before. The whole 'Golden Rule'? Not new.

JLM, surprisingly, sank to the level of atheists, opined:

"What a lot of these religious nuts fail to understand is the Bible is just another book- like Alice in Wonderland."

Well, JLM, let me ask you: which one of the Ten Commandments do you consider WRONG?

I'm not sure that "WRONG" is the correct word. Seven out of ten are probably good. The business about not having any other god's before me and not using the Lord's name in vain are not particularly productive. The one about the Sabbath is B.S. - do you think doctors, ambulances, firemen should shut right down on Sunday? No one should be FORCED to observe religion. That in itself just makes religion lose all credibility.

Fair enough, JLM.

However, those who oppose the Ten Commandments are, by and large, not as astute as you are. They are just opposing it for opposition's sake, and with a total moral bankruptcy to suggest anything better.

Regarding the golden rule - where did the golden rule come from?
It's debatable, but the ethics of reciprocity (AKA The Golden Rule) have origins going back as far as ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient Hinduism, etc. And those have had the concept of ethics for a lot longer than Christianity and the Bible have been around.

Right out of the Holy Bible.
Wrong.

None are wrong. The first 4 show immense vanity and aq couple other nasty human traits, though.

Might I suggest twenty instead of the ten. The list is long overdue for updating I should think. The ten were adopted by Christians primarily because it matched the numbers of fingers and toes.

Most people have 20 fingers and toes, not 10 (even Christians).
