Indeed... I mean if you're getting police to escort your gang of topless women, AKA: Trying to get attention to yourselves (for whatever the reason) you're going to have people looking at you.
You can be a bunch of guys dressed up like pirates with police escort down the street, yelling "YYYYAAAARRRRRRR!!!! KEEP YER SEMEN OFF THAR POOP DECK!!" and people are still going to take pictures.... guy or not.
And I bet there were women in that crowd who took pictures of them topless too.... they just got all bent out of shape because there were men checking them out and having a good time.
It took the 60's and the Hippies to desensitize people with much of the female body most of us see today on a regular basis, if they just do it regularly, not make a big spectacle and act normally about it, like it's an everyday thing, eventually people will get used to it and move on.
If not, then sue their ass for sexual harassment.
I don't know about Maine Law - most states seem to have their own issues re topless or nudity
California has quite a few nude and/or topless beaches and they are published so families won't wander into an area they don't want their children to view...
I see nothing wrong with topless, but am iffy on what kids can handle -

Kids can handle? Sometimes it's the innocence in what a child will say that adults can't handle....

The reaction of adults sometimes makes me wonder why they are planting them on their children who see nothing wrong in nudity. Some parents take their kids to
nudist venues as part of the lifestyle here and the kids see nothing different....but
as they grow into their teens, the implications are greater and many are embarrassed by their own physical reactions....and where does the line get drawn in family wishes?
If you start something - you have to take it to the finish line right? We have no idea how older children are going to react because they are now subject to the opinions of their other friends whose parents may have implanted "bad" into their heads....it's confusing for them.
We are not talking of secluded nude beaches here. In Ontario or New York (I don't know about other jurisdictions), a woman is permitted to bare her breasts wherever a man can go topless.
This is an issue of equal rights, not one of nudity or lewdness.
My exact reason against nudity in public. Young and perky - interesting to every man and is that not what a man is pretty much built to react to and what many women count on? But man, as your granddaughter said - for older women whoes boobs have gone south, keep them covered. I used to think it was just excess weight. I worked with an older woman who is so thin she almost looks anorexic. She was always one to speak her mind and sometimes really funny. One day she said - "It doesn't matter how slim you are, when you get older, you still have to pull them up and tuck them in". Younger women need to keep them covered so the young men don't walk around with their tent pants and older women should not embarrass themselves with their danglers.
I say if you don't like something, don't look at it.
If "attractive" women and men are allowed to bare themselves in public, then it's only fair unattractive and/or older people with beer bellies, droopy breasts and hairy shoulders are allowed to too.
Of course not only would society in general begin to become desensitized to superficial expectations of what humanity should look like, but it would no doubt cause devastation to the fashion/clothing industry who have been keeping humanity under its boot since the Victorian era.
And that's all we need..... a washed out Tyra Banks gone mental begging for change on the streets, beating a stick on a plastic bucket to a broken tune of "Camptown Ladies."

That is why it is not an issue of pornography or lewdness, VanIsle. Many times women's breasts are not pretty. If women started baring their breasts as a matter of routine, if men view such a prospect with eager, drooling anticipation, they are likely to be sorely disappointed.

To expect them to romp around in their 'not so special birthday garments' is taking away their camouflage from which they can enjoy their world without embarrassment.... clothing has many uses......and not all women (or men) have perfect bodies.

to the necessities of age and gravity.
It's too bad women can't be honored for their inward beauty and goodness which they have more opportunity to develop from childhood to the elder years.

Well women still have "choice" whether bared breasts are natural and legal .... they may find the result not as pleasant as they imagined .....I kinda like the idea of
treating one's gifts as quality and special for the right person and the right moment. Some things should be left fo a lover's imagination as a gift from his
beloved when the time is right...... saved for his eyes alone.
Horribly old fashion I know - and I believe everyone should have a choice - only hoping they will make the best one for their future happiness.

This reminds me of a pub that I frequent from time to time. There is a particular bartender who has (what some people call ;-) ) perfect breasts.
She wear tight shirts that are cut right down to the point where it is almost illegal. Practically falling out of her shirt.
Yet she gets all upset when she catches guys (non-regular customers PHEW!) looking at them and complains to the male bartenders.

I am not saying that women should go bare breasted, Curiosity. What I am saying is that they must be given a choice. Even where it is legal, in places like New York or Ontario, most people have never seen a bare breasted woman walking down the street.
But they must be given a choice.
