Well they did have the winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York twice but they had all the right stuff in place to start it. The State of New Hampshire would have to invest tens of millions of it's OWN MONEY (meaning yours in the form of taxes) in it's infrastructure to even be considered and compete against world class cities. I doubt even the folks in NH would want that risk and NH does not like taxes.

Live Free or Die baby! That's the NH State moto for those that don't know... minus the "baby".

I live in Massachusetts and I did not lose power.
you know what strange with that motto... the guy who said it... has his place in Vermont.

Meh all states have tax nothing new to me. I am sure there be plenty that would oppsed it, but plenty would support it as well. Life free or die is nh motto right on our licenses plate.

"Live Free or Die" is the official motto of the U.S. state of New Hampshire, adopted by the state in 1945.[1] It is possibly the best-known of all state mottos, partly because it speaks to an assertive independence historically found in American political philosophy and partly because of its contrast to the milder sentiments found in other state mottos."

Edit: ahh i see i lost power, but got back the next day took shorter than ice storm there been a lot of trucks up here helping restore power. i just saw like 10 park and 3 on the road or working.

give a couple. i actually got a picture of blue spars from the power line :)

i know its off topic i tend to be random, but since were talking about where the olympics should be held is all good.

these small states deserve as much as bigger states get.

Hmmmm...I think the IOC would be better served by having the Olympics at another venue.

On the other hand it would be like a human Sarengetti Plain.

They could have the Summer version of the biathlon. lol

Detroit could introduce the NASCAR-biathlon. Not only a race but you have to hit the drive-by targets too.

MANCHESTER NH! You can't be serious! Granted you have the mountains for skiing but you need a REAL capital city for a host city.

Actually you don't. Vancouver was the largest city ever chosen for the winter games. For the most part the Winter Olympics have been held in rather small cities, many of them much smaller than a million people. What seems to matter is whether or not there are large population centres close by. In that regard almost any place in New Hampshire would do.

I didn't think the US acted any different then any other team would have had they lost the gold medal game. It's not like they skated to centre ice and pissed on our flag.

I agree, the impact of that loss is huge for either team,
and they were no different than we would have been, the
loss is hard to take, they were devastated at that time,
(right after the game), takes a little while to wear off.
They were fine, I wanted to hug all of them, well,(not
Burke), it's hard to lose such a big game.
They are all good guys just like our players, and love the
game just like our players, in fact, our team probably
would have been in worse shape than they were, as there was so much expected
from us, by us.

Oh dear.

Then I expect EVERY Canadian on this years Stanley Cup losing NHL squad to be out on the ice with BIG AZZ smiles on their faces as the winning team skates the cup around.

Yeah, they couldn't shake hands and leave, they have to
stand there and watch all of the cheering and hugging etc
by the other team, and 'have' to wait because they have to
be handed their medals.

The silver in their minds is for the loser, it's not
what they came for, doesn't really mean much, and every
time they look at it, they will remember the loss, and
how close they came, it will be shoved in a drawer when
they get home, not paraded around proudly, and I understand
that and accept it.

That's like rubbing salt in the wound, they had to do it,
and shouldn't be looked down on for not looking cheery and
proud. They were miserable and had earned that right, it
could of easily been the other way around, very easily.

From CBC.ca:

In the latest International Ice Hockey Federation world rankings that were tabulated after the Vancouver Olympics, Canada moved back to No. 1 from the second spot. The rest of the top 20 is as follows: 2. Russia; 3. Finland; 4. Sweden; 5. United States; 6. Czech Republic; 7. Slovakia; 8. Switzerland; 9. Belarus; 10. Latvia; 11. Norway; 12. Germany; 13. Denmark; 14. Austria; 15. Italy; 16. France; 17. Ukraine; 18. Slovenia; 19. Kazakhstan; 20. Hungary.

And that shows how irrelevant the IIHF is/how much it doesn't know. No one produces the volume or quality of players that Canada does. That anyone else should have been ranked above Canada is laughable. The USA is coming up and should be ranked a lot higher. The most relevant tournaments are the WJHC and the Olympics. The IIHF World Championships, the Spengler Cup and the other tourneys are shadows of these because the best players in the world are with their NHL clubs while these occur. The only other relevant tournament was the Canada Cup/World Cup, played in the summer when there no NHL playoffs to keep players from competing for their national teams.

What the IIHF don't seem to realize is that Canada could have fielded at least one, maybe two more Olympic teams that would have been competitive in that field.

I'm a Hockey fan and I don't care who you supported in the USA/Canada Gold Medal game it was the best Hockey game I have ever seen. Both teams were really sharp and worked very hard.

Right on Highball, just like the game the previous Sunday. You see too many negative comments about the players these days. If a player is lazy and not pulling his weight that's one thing, if he misses a shot or fails to intercept a pass, big frickin deal, or lets in a soft goal, that comes under the heading of sh*t happens and you get over it and get back to the game.
