V.I. - I was in a bowling tournament while the game was on, so although I was able to follow the highlights, didn't get a chance to scruitinize the details so didn't witness the behaviour of the Yanks you mention. But I think that is one of the products of the attitude toward winning at all costs today. It's gotten crazy, as one poster said and I think there's a bit of truth in it, Bronze signifies a "win" while silver signifies a "loss". I think the Yanks played a hell of a game- Canada should have had a two goal lead in the final minutes so they wouldn't pull the goalie and it damn near burned them, but Crosby pulled it off anyway. It's too bad there couldn't just be more enjoyment in playing the game than in the prize you win at the end of it. Guess it's another trait of the human animal, just like the collection of wealth at all costs.

If canadians had of lost in hockey, they would have looked
exactly like the u.s. team. They were completely deflated,
and one has to understand what it is like going from such
a high, with adrenaline charging all over the place, and
all of a sudden it is over, very suddenly, and you have
lost the game.
They were quiet and respectful in their loss, I would
never expect them to look tall and proud or to have a
smile on their faces, and 'our team would have been the
same' in a loss.
They will get over it, just need a little time, that
moment was too soon to expect that.

My apologies - didn't understand but still don't understand why you have an attitude with people you don't even know.

Having major problems communicating on a forum is understandable, people from all over the world whose English is not even "second" language still have a try at
saying "hello" to Canadian people - I think it is terrific.

It isn't the language barrier Critter - it's the striking out at us when you can make a point without putting people down.... hang in there and give people time to get used to you before you throw your weight around.

b1. What about their attuide right from the start? they don't even know me yet they gave me crap so far. acppet for a few people.
2. true i never really thought of that, my bad on my part.

3. That's not my goal to get people down its my goal to make a point, the point is though when you have to bring me down. your going to get the same response back its just the way life is.

Ever heard of the saying "treat others the way you want to be treated?"
Don't judge a book by its cover? <---- i am espcially trying not to do this but its seem to be hard when i got people insult, and acting immature when they can't handle what i said.

4. thanks for the apologize i appreciate it. You were trying to help in a way, just didn't intend to hurt anyone.

5. I got fellow person who came to usa who is part Canada and we been friends since i was litter. I believe he was born in the usa, but my mom friend is Canada and he got family up there.

they go up there like ever year.

As for hockey, I hope it's the last time the IOC ranks the USA as low as #6. They were clearly one of the best teams. Players like Kane are as good as it gets anywhere, let alone Miller, Parise etc. The difference between the two countries could just be overall size. In the US, when you grow up big, one is likely more apt to be steered into football or basketball. In Canada, hockey is supreme, and if one can package size with talent they'll be steered to the ice. It also doesn't hurt that Canada has more ice rinks than the rest of the world combined. The opportunity for a Canadian in hockey is unique.

I had to learn the hard way - I got upset by everything that was said or written to me and had so many fights I wasn't getting much in the way of fun or friendship on forums. I live in the U.S.A. and not many Canadians wanted a friendship - only to
make remarks about the U.S.

I backed off and tried a new idea on another forum. I stopped seeing people as
I would face to face - trying to see what their point was and if they got testy with me I tried to continue being friendly. It hasn't always worked, but I enjoy my time
on forums better than I did before and the ones I'll never be able to handle, I move along right past them and find a friendly person to chat with..... like you!

I've been reading up on your Chromosome issue - you are doing well if you are handling a forum group. Hang in there.... and find some good friendships....
I can't think of a better way to have a chance to sort out your reply to a post
than in this kind of place. Not like face to face discussion. Best wishes to you!

I listened to most of the game on the radio, but arrived home in time to see the OT. Coming from a tournament where my daughter's team won the championship 8 minutes into the second OT period, it was quite a nerve-wracking day.

You are pretty much on target here. Playing hockey up here in New England was not nearly as popular as as the other three sports. It IS popular, don't get me wrong. We have some great college hockey in Massachusetts with Boston University, and Boston College. In other parts of New England there is Univ. of Maine, Univ. of NH and Univ of Vermont. But even when you look at the rosters of those colleges you are going to find A LOT of Canadians. I was looking at a BU roster a couple of years ago and I'd say about 80% were Canadian.

For over half of youth hockey players I would say it is a seasonal sport. For the hardcore hockey kids they play year round. They HAVE to play year round to succeed in hockey. With that they have to compete for ice time with the rinks available.

And as for the reaction of USA players on losing a championship game, come on... what do you expect? I do not care if you are Canadian or American, when you lose the big one you are going to be upset.

Take a look at the losing NHL team this year at the Stanley Cup and I am sure you will see A LOT of dejected Canadians.

They should certainly knock down the Russian, Swedes, Czechs & Finland.

The ineffectiveness of the "European" game has been exposed for what it is during this tournament... formula to lose.

Critter... take it easy. You will find that most here are cool but others will ride you on every post and try to hit your nerves on every post. You cannot let it get to you.

And you cannot expect to come on here and talk smack on how we are going to beat Canada in hockey and expect it to go by when we don't.

We've had plenty of winning Olympic bids. Four that I can remember in my own lifetime. Lake Placid and Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and the Los Angeles and Atlanta Summer Olympics. Most countries do not get any.

b1. i never did that was joking around and just proud of our team. i know that but what i am saying is that ioc told us they don't want us to bid.

"he USOC has clearly stated they will not bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics, remarking "The (IOC) sent us a message, loud and clear, that they don't want the Games to be in the United States".[19] Whether this resolution extends to the Winter Games as well remains to be seen. (they seem to be talking about summer olympics.)

I think that's because, as EagleSmack has noted, the US has hosted the Olympics 4 times, and the IOC wants more diversity in host countries. It's not anti-American.

Well...you did a little.

"You can come across the border and see our gold medals"

Sorry, that aint gonna fly round here...not with hockey. But nevermind all that. It is good to be proud and enthusiastic but you have to take your lumps around here being an American on a Canadian forum.

And so what if they don't want us to bid...it'll save a lot of US cities money.

It's not like North America or the US for that matter has been shafted on hosting the Olympics, from 1980 on

1980 Winter (Lake Placid)
1984 Summer (Los Angeles)
1988 Winter (Calgary)
1996 Summer (Atlanta)
2002 Winter (Utah)
2010 Winter (Vancouver)

That was only four that I remember...the USA hosted 9 total. We've had our share.

It was a fantastic game that could have gone either way. Lucky for us - it came our way. The Americans hung their heads in shame when they accepted their silver medal and that in itself was a shame. They had nothing to hang their heads for. They looked angry and they looked about to cry. Grown men for goodness sakes! They should have held their heads high and took their silver medals proudly. There was no shame in winning the silver.
For anyone who doesn't remember it - Hockey is Canada! Canada is hockey!
We were announcing the score today in the store. People were cheering. When we won - whoever announced it just said "WE JUST WON GOLD" and the whole store whooped and hollered and clapped. It was a great moment.

Gotta agree, VanIsle. After watching the reactions of the US Women's Hockey Team, I was hoping for a better show of pride from the US Men's team but it was not to be. Heck, they could have come out and scored the first OT goal but they didn't. They won Silver for their country and should have stood proud. What a shame.

Oh dear.

Then I expect EVERY Canadian on this years Stanley Cup losing NHL squad to be out on the ice with BIG AZZ smiles on their faces as the winning team skates the cup around.

You must be very proud of your daughter and her team. Can't think of a better reason to miss most of the game than actually participating in a future champions own best efforts.

I didn't think the US acted any different then any other team would have had they lost the gold medal game. It's not like they skated to centre ice and pissed on our flag.

Okay, EagleSmack, after reading a few of the other posts, I have to admit I was too quick to judge. Still a Silver medal is nothing to sniff at and the US should be proud of the way they played. Your goalie is super hot and in my uniformed opinion, better than ours. It was a grand game all in all. :canada:
