It's strange that an earthquake in Haiti can bring so much anti-Americanism. It can only come from Canadians, who resent having a much larger, more powerful and more successful neighbour.

The US can't win.

The US would have attracted venom if it stood by and done nothing. People would be complaining that the world's richest country doesn't seem to care about the catastrophe which has happened in the Western world's poorest.

But when the US does more to help the Haitians than any single country - for example, its military might allowing it to send giant aircraft carriers packed full of food and medical supplies - it's still attacked by certain morons. France (the usual suspect for anti-Americanism) even accused the US of "occupying" Haiti this week.

Do these people not release that US troops, and those of other nations, are there to help the people of Haiti after a huge disaster, and that the people of Haiti are grateful for their presence?

Quake victim Gregory Louissant said "God bess America" "Sincerely, God bless America. They're going to be blessed."

"Thank you to the doctors from Chicago, from Texas and Miami," Charles Johnson said through a translator. "We need more of you" as he received the help of personnel from Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas who set up a pavement clinic.

If the US suddenly pulled out all troops and took away the USS Carl Vinson and refused to continue to help the Haitians, and not sure the Haitians would be too happy, regardless of what some certain loony Lefties think.

Hey BlackLeaf it must be after twilight in Britiania you're out of your casket. It's not odd at all to see a conquered subjugated person do an anal inflation of its master. The only fact in your speel is this. "The US can't win." But they will try very hard, not to worry if your gold is in the right place.

Haitians in the US according to Haitian Community leaders about 1 Million, other accounts say perhaps 850,000.

I found out that there are about 120,000 Haitians in Canada. There is not much about it out there.

There's a slightly higher percentage of Haitians in Canada per population than the States then. About .36% in Canada as opposed to about .30% in the States.

Anyway, some people sure love to snivel about the States and forget that our own gov't is fairly dysfunctional. Funny.

Let’s be blunt. There are two reasons why Haitians will not be permitted to escape their horrific conditions through emigration to the United States: They’re black and they’re destitute. If white Anglo-Saxon Britons were suffering the same horrific conditions that Haitians are suffering, there is no question but that U.S. officials would be welcoming them with open arms.

Right

Barack Obama's administration is refusing US entry to Haitians.....because they are black.

Yep.

The author of this article has a two-digit IQ......

So it is about .06% difference. So it is much ado about nothing...as usual.

And they really are snivelers.

Its looting when armed thugs take goods from a shopowner trying to protect his goods. Saw it on the news.
There was a fellow that was shot and almost killed by a shotgun blast during the Katrina thing. He is a black fellow and was suspected of looting. The thing is this guy was an armored car guard/driver and was always handling huge amounts of cash and stuff before Katrina hit. While he was in the hospital, the staff found a notebook the guy had in his pocket. In it was a list of things that he had scavenged (mostly food), the cost of the items, and where the items were gotten from. Someone came up with the bright idea that he had been trying to help people survive. MHz is right. There's a huge difference between looting and trying to survive and massive disasters are one time when the authorities are the ones that are panicky and overly anxious to restore order. Everyone else is just doing what needs to be done.

Where do you take your looted stuff? To your looted pancaked house that doesn't exist.
Sometimes. I heard a story about someone caught "looting". He had a bolt of cloth that he was going to use to build a tent.
Really, some of the things that people scavenge to survive wouldn't be the normal things real thieves would take and wouldn't be that valuable to thieves.
And the media has only one word for it, "looting". The newsmedia is as stupid as the over-controlling authorities.

I asked this once, why is the term looting still being used, at what point does scavenging become a legal way to survive.

What exactly are you trying to prove. The Haitians have enough problems with out you throwing in your -1 hertz piece of mentality. Murdering or stealing from your neighbor will never be legal. Wonder when the last time you were in N. Orleans, or for that matter that it was the local gov. that abandoned the city. It was General Russel L. Honoré who restored the city.

All you have proved is your ignorance and hatred of the United States with your comments..

It's all about what we see and what they say while we are seeing it. TV is an amazing machine that can run you through every emotion you have in minutes without you physically participating.

Every emotion can be manipulated from deep sadness to elation in mere seconds which leaves your brain pumped up with every drugs it can manufacture to keep you sane but leaves you open to suggestion.

Yup. It's called sensationalism. I like how Princeton U. Press puts its definition:

"subject matter that is calculated to excite and please vulgar tastes ".
