"There exist some people who abuse the system," is a general statement, true of any given system. It is completely tautological and in no way a sign that things aren't working. Free riders are a fact of life, if one finds oneself bothered by them, one should lighten up: they will never go away no matter what you do short of exterminating them. That is reality.

As for social engineering, it is completely necessary for the government to do so in order to combat the social engineering of advertisers who are not concerned about the health of their consumers. Since it is much cheaper to produce crap that quality, given equal advertising, the vast majority of us will be led into buying the crap believing it to be of high quality. This is why I suggest that unhealthy products be taxed: it has proven to be highly effective with tobacco products.

Homeopathic and naturalpathics are where you find most of the quacks

That is absolute BS
Naturopaths have much better training than so called doctors who mostly sell pills.
It is only in North America where quacks with alternative medicine get lumped in with Naturopaths when in fact they should be with the pill pushers.
Where the difference lies is that medical doctors treat the symptoms and Naturopaths look for the underlying causes. They also take the time to talk to their patients because they are not obsessed with profits and the 15 minute interview and prescription writing.
The simplest way to tell if a doctor is any good or not is ask him/her how they feel about Naturopaths and chiropractors. If you get a negative response you have a quack for a doctor.
Best way to be healthy is to eat proper food and exercise regular. And stay away from ER and doctors offices sinc they are full of sick people.

Your second to last sentence says it all. However I don't think you are being quite fair to doctors. I had one doctor, who would write the prescription and then tell me if you just keep this in your pocket until Tues. there's a good chance you won't need it, if you are still sick get it filled and 80% of the time he was right.

Doctor says, "You've got impacted bowel. Here take this laxative"
Naturopath says, "You've got impacted bowel. Drink more water & juice, less milk, and don't eat cheese for a while. Drink this".
Apple, orange. Reactive, preventative.

The most effective thing to buffer our healthcare system, as always, is to increase taxes: in a targetted fashion. Just tax people who buy junk food. It is already done with drugs and alcohol.

That has been proposed at a federal level and it makes perfect sense.

Two problems with that (the ones that I can think of at the moment): 1) the poor eat more junk food than the rich (not an excuse, just pointing it out so you know who you'll be targeting) and 2) there is no official nutritional standard in Canada that delineates what is and what is not 'junkfood' (i.e. it becomes open to interpretation, meaning it can be manipulated for political motives).

I think they'd eventually discover that eating big macs and whatever else is more expensive than cooking their own burgers at home.
and 2) there is no official nutritional standard in Canada that delineates what is and what is not 'junkfood' (i.e. it becomes open to interpretation, meaning it can be manipulated for political motives).
Yeah, there is that problem. But then a food being designated a Canadian product used to be a fuzzy topic too. Now it's a little more clear.
