And if they were to both end up tied for wins then it goes to the team with the better record against each other. We can't depend on a win against either L.A. or Colorado and they would be wise to play them the same way they play Detroit. Calgary can not re relied upon to beat Edmonton either, so it will all be very interesting. I think the Canucks best chance in the playoffs would be against Columbus, but hey as Old Yogi used to say "it ain't over.................."

It will be interesting. Columbus is very tough, but at this moment in time,
all of the contending teams are tough, as none of them are in any kind of
slump any longer. San Jose should win their series, but they still have some
injuries, including patrick marleau, and they need him.
Chicago is at the top of their game again, but they were beaten yesterday
by columbus 4-3 in a shoot out.
Both teams are well coached, especially hitchcock for columbus.
St. Louis have an excellent team, with that good young line who are
making waves in the league right now.
Anaheim has peaked at just the right time, and no one can beat them right
now.
Detroit can never be counted out, but with osgood in goal, they could be
bounced in the first round, or, they could win the cup again, who knows.
Don't think nashville will get into the playoffs, but it isn't finished yet.
So, when you listen to the sports radio, they just laugh and say, no one wants
to meet anyone in the first round, and that just about sums it up.
I don't think edmonton will let calgary beat them two straight, so if canucks
can win theirs, that will be good, but I wouldn't make a bet with anyone on
any of those games.

For the Canucks…

One of the franchise’s most decorated defencemen of all-time in Mattias Ohlund could potentially be playing in his final regular season contest at GM Place in a Canucks’ sweater tonight when he leads his team into battle against the Los Angeles Kings. Drafted in the first round, 13th overall, back in 1994, the impending unrestricted free agent has certainly provided plenty of great memories for Canucks fans throughout his 11 seasons (12 including the lockout) with the team – the latest coming on Tuesday night when he snapped a 25-game goal-less drought with a two-goal outing against the Flames. For the four-time winner of the team’s Babe Pratt Trophy for Most Outstanding Defenceman (1998, 2000, 2004, 2006), it was his first two-goal effort since January 23, 2008 against the St. Louis Blues.

The Pitea, Sweden native will be hoping to add to his franchise record leading 93 goals and 325 points by a defenceman tonight and post his first point against the Kings this season after going point-less in three contests so far. In 40 career games versus Los Angeles, Ohlund has recorded 17 points (2-15-17) and 36 penalty minutes. For the Kings…

It may be a disappointing season in the City of Angels after yet another failed bid to make the playoffs, but Drew Doughty is one of the many reasons why there’s plenty of optimism for the future for Kings fans. The 19-year old rookie defenceman, whose name has been thrown around in many circles as a potential Calder Trophy candidate for NHL Rookie of the Year, has been one of the most dependable blueliners for the Kings this season appearing in all-but-one of his team’s games this season while sitting second in points by a rearguard only to Kyle Quincey’s 38 points with 27 (6-21-27). The second youngest defenceman to ever dress for the Kings’ franchise at 18 years, 10 months and three days on opening night (only Aki Berg was younger in his Kings’ debut at 18 years, 2 months and nine days), Doughty has recorded over 20-plus minutes of ice-time in 75 of his 79 games played this season.

The London, Ontario native will be hoping to snap out of a mini-scoring slump when he faces the Canucks for the fourth time this season. He has just two points in his last eight games and has not scored a goal in that same stretch. The 2008 World Junior Hockey Gold Medalist will also be looking for his first career point against the Canucks. In three games versus Vancouver this season, Doughty has zero points and four penalty minutes to go with a minus-three rating.

Another big game tonight, l.a. is a very exciting, and very young talented team,
who can beat anybody, anytime. Maybe even next year they could step up and
threaten for a championship, SO, don't think the canucks should take them
lightly, and expect to win, and they won't. Canucks certainly can win tonight,
if they play the way they can, they have to tighten up in the defensive zone,
so the shots on net come down, no more 'over 40' shots on Luongo, and they
should win this game.
They have the awards night tonight for the canucks, couldn't even guess who
will be voted the mvp for canucks, so will wait and see.

GO CANUCKS GO

The Canucks have been a strange team lately. One game they look like they could take on the best team in the league, and the next game they look like a bunch of bums. If the defense tightens up and gives Luongo just a bit of help, I swear they could be a contender. They have guys who can put the puck in the net but it seems to depend on confidence. If Luongo lets in an early, easy one, the whole team plays like they are skating on eggs and they are all fearful their next mistake will end up in their own net. This team can do a lot of things right. They just need a bit of consistancy.

I'm trying to get a mental picture, and it's very scary, but you know, I think
I could pull it off, and put him out of business, I could lower the collar area,
and make the jacket more seductive, and make sure the jacket is long enough
so that I don't have to wear pants, just net stockings, and stilletos, but the
only problem, I don't want that phone call from playboy, so lets not tell them
anything.;-)

Good win for canucks, would have been nice to get a couple more goals, but their
goalie played very well, he should have been the third star.
Luongo played excellent, made some key saves, and had some luck too.
Defensive zone play was better, but they still struggled at times, and seemed
to be a little too obedient in their own end, and they weren't as aggressive as
I would have liked to see, but I think Vineault has made them tighten right up
in their own end, and behave themselves.
I don't like the way Demitra is playing, thought he had a very sloppy game.

Kesler - mvp, Burrows, - most exciting player, - Mitchell - best defenceman, -
unsung hero - Bernier, - top scorer will have to wait till after next game as
sedins are tied.

The eastern conference is settled now, florida and buffalo didn't make it, but
montreal and rangers are in, so looks like montreal/boston against each other
in first round, and if it's anything like last nights game, it will be wild.
They always have had a big rivalry over the years, and it hasn't changed one bit.
Last nights game was full of high intensity and emotion, lots of fights, and mix-ups.

Montreal was lucky that they were able to squeak out with a point. Boston just couldn't hold the lead in regulation.

minnesota playing nashville, minny ahead right now 5-2, but st. louis are playing columbus, and st. louis is leading 2-1, and no score between edmonton/calgary
late in the first period.
whoever loses between minny and nash. is out.
But if anaheim beat dallas later, and st. louis win, minnesota will be out.

2/0 Edmonton, end of the 2nd, keeping my fingers crossed.
Yeah, that's great, hope it continues. St. Louis won, so they have clinched a
playoff spot, so now only one spot remains available.
If anaheim beat dallas tonight, (playing now), minnesota is out.

Now, Canucks just have to win tomorrow night, or get one point, and they will
win the northwest.
Anaheim are ahead in their game with dallas, but lots of hockey to play, if they
win, they will clinch the playoffs, and minnesota will be out, but if anaheim lose
this game and their next game, and minnesota win their last game, minny will
be in, I'm sure I am repeating myself, sorry.

OK, the west is settled now, anaheim are in, minnesota are out, and that's it.

Even if minnesota ended up in a tie with anaheim they would lose with less wins.

Yep, Canucks have a little breathing room now (and we can breathe a little easier), I'm betting it would be more advantageous for them to play Columbus having home advantage than Chicago w/o home advantage BUT as Old Yogi used to say............................
