My predictions

Mtl over Bos in 7 (just because Montreal always beats Boston)
Wsh over NYR in 5
Car over NJD in 7
Pit over Phi in 6

SJS over Ana in 5
CBJ over Det in 7
Van over StL in 7
Chi over Cgy in 6

Round two

Wsh over Mtl in 6
Car over Pit in 7

SJS over CBJ in 6
Chi over Van in 7

Round 3

Wsh over Pit in 7
SJS over Chi 6

Round 4

SJS over Wsh in 7

Now, all this goes out the window if Boston goes against history and beats Montreal and/or one of Detroit's goaltenders manages to extricate his head from his rectum.

This playoff season could prove to be different, because of all the 'young' players this year, but as a rule in the past, the
playoffs are usually low scoring games, and a good responsible defense comes
to the forefront and defeats teams, who have a run and gun mentality.
Even with the talent detroit has had recently, it is their total defensive play
that has won their games for them, with their good scorers putting the puck
in the net enough times to win the games.
This year Detroit is very shaky in goal, so that could be their downfall in this
playoffs.
The old edmonton oilers, (gretzky era), were the opposite to this theory, but
they also let in lots of goals, so games would be 7-6 type of games, but they
didn't care, they just kept outscoring the opposition.

Another thing about Detroit this year is that Hossa has a wonky groin right now. That could limit his playing time(or adversely affect his play) and he may even aggravate the injury.

My predictions:

First Round:

Boston over Montreal in 5.
Washington over New York in 5.
Pittsburgh over Philadelphia in 6.
Carolina over New Jersey in 7.

San Jose over Anaheim in 5.
Chicago over Calgary in 7.
Vancouver over St. Louis in 6.
Columbus over Detroit in 6.

Second Round: I'll wait and see how the first round pans out for me first.;-):p

I agree with all of your predictions except San Jose over Anaheim and
unless Osgood and Conklin really stink the place out, detroit should win.
I know San Jose should win, as they should have in the last two playoffs,
but Anaheim look so tough right now, and seem to be on a mission, so I
will pick them to win, even though I can't stand them.

Canucks better stay out of the penalty box, as st. louis have an awsome power
play, and will kill us with it, if we let them.

They will also play a very heavy game, so Ripien, and Hortichuk will have to
respond, without taking stupid penalties, their isn't usually fights in playoffs.

I'm depending on our 2nd and 3rd lines to get the job done, and let 'their'
top defense work over our 1st line, as I don't think the twins and burrows
will have enough room to do anything much, unless their passing is precise.

St. Louis is a very well coached team, and they will show it, hope we do too.
Maybe those talented 'young' players on St. Louis will choke in the playoffs,
ha, wishful thinking, but it is possible.

You're a little optimistic- I think there will be at least one or two 7 game series, I don't know enough about the east to comment, but I would say in the west you have the winners right BUT it's going to take Chicago and S.J. 7 games. AND THAT'S GOSPEL :lol::lol::lol:

It is quite possible that St. Louis will spring Paul Kariya on us, as 'he' is said to be
ready to play, a talented veteran with lots of play off experience, and a real spark,
but maybe sundin will do the same for us. :-( well, maybe, doncha ya thinki? He has
played better of late, and lots of play off experience, lots of smarts, I'm thinking that
he will be good in the playoffs.

Sundin does a good job of controlling the puck behind the oposition net. Now, if we could just get some of our players in front of the net when he does that....;-)

Yup, that is true, but on the flip side, he could have a better look at times,
and instead of trying to wrap it around, when there is no chance of scoring,
he could make a pass, a wrap around is such a high risk shot, unless a player
is doing a fly by around the back of the goal, and he would not be doing any
fly-bys, maybe a glide-by.;-)

For the Canucks…

One can understand if Pavol Demitra feels a sense of déjà vu heading into this playoff series. The last time the Canucks and Blues hooked up in the playoffs, the 6’0”, 200 lbs. right winger was proudly sporting the blue-and-yellow colours of the enemy and was one of the Blues’ more potent offensive producers finishing in a second-place tie on his team in playoff scoring with six points (2-4-6) in seven games. As a member of the Blues, the 34-year old has had quite a distinguished playoff career. He sits eighth place on the Blues all-time playoff games played list with 66 while his 43 career playoff points (18-25-43) as a member of the Blues have him sitting in a seventh-place tie with Frank St. Marseille in their franchise record books.

The Dubnica, Slovakia native will be hoping to erase the memories of a three-game point-less streak to close out the regular season and get off to a quick start in this year’s post-season. Personally, he’ll also be looking to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since his trip to the Conference Semi-Finals with the Blues back in 2002. In 77 career playoff games, Demitra has 50 points (20-30-50) and 28 penalty minutes.

Pavel Demitra better stop being a 'floater', if he can, and take part in the game.
He is a big dissapointment to me, and too bad he has signed for more than one
year, don't know how Gillis can get rid of him, other that buying him out, the
game seems to have become too fast for him. He does give out a nice pass, but
he needs lots of room and time, and is a total failure along the boards. Good
in the shoot outs, but there are no shootouts in the playoffs.
He needs to step up, if that line is going to do anything at all.

Don't have a clue how this series will turn out, whatever happens, happens.
But I do notice, that people seem to think we should win this series quite easy.
That is showing 'no' respect for St. Louis at all.

I don't see the first round as being a problem- the second round maybe if they have to face the Ducks. Better in a way if the Sharks win the round as it would give the Canucks a better chance of more rounds before elimination. Glad to see Cgy. is pretty well toast.

You are jumping the gun, and looking too far into the tournament, and depending on existing results to set the stage for the final results.

The Canucks look to improve their 1-0 series lead over the St. Louis Blues tonight in front of a towel-waving crowd at GM Place. The atmosphere was electric for Wednesday’s Home Opener and the players hope to recreate the excitement by coming out strong.

“I think we need to play a full 60 minutes,” said Vigneault. “I thought our third period [of Game #1] was good, but I do think we can still be better and we have to be better. It’s about getting better every day and putting our best game on the ice tonight. And that’s what we’re going to focus on.

“Nobody in my mind surprised me in that game as far as their play. We need to get better. We had a good third period, but you need to play three periods and sometimes more, so we’re going to have to be better tonight.”

“I'd like to play every period like the last period," said Roberto Luongo, who has only surrendered 2 goals in his last four games. "As far as we’re concerned we just want to play our game and play it hard. It doesn’t matter what period it is or what the score is, we always want to play the same way and establish our game. And make sure that we’re on their players."

St. Louis will come out tonight with a much more energetic effort, the young guns will do better tonight, as last game they seemed to be in awe of the playoffs, and didn't play their usual game.

We must do the same, and if we can pull this one off, and go to St. Louis
with a two game lead, that will be great.
The visiting team usually is happy with a split, and that is what they will be
after tonight.
We must play much more 5 on 5 hockey, as they will burn us this time if we
sit in the box as much as we did last game.

Very likely talloola, when it comes to hockey savvy I trust your predictions better than mine, but winning the first game, especially if it's on the road is a great psycological bonus, don't you think? I still maintain there is a good chance the Ducks could beat S.J. I have no preference between the two, just would like to see the Canucks delay having to face either of them.
