The game between the Hurricanes and the Islanders tonight makes me wonder if the Islanders really are tanking on purpose. What a fugly game. Check out the boxscore and you'll see that the Islanders sucked at everything.8O

Yeah, they are down at the bottom now, might as well stay there.

They were completely and utterly out played for most of the game. You can't seriously be happy with that performance...in such an important game?
They weren't seriously outplayed throughout the game, they were outshot,
and outplayed more than not, both teams had good chances, which I take
more seriously than shots, as in the first period calgary were shooting on
luongo from everywhere, obviously their strategy, was to blast pucks at him
from everywhere and hope for the first goal, well, it didn't work.
And I repeat what I said, we have won games when he was sloppy, what do
you say about those games.
Teams are teams, they support each other, when some are down, others are
up, that's the way it goes. He is earning 7 mill a season, he should steal a
game now and then, that's his job, and the rest of the team will do the same
for him from time to time.
Our pk was great, and their power play sucked.
I am happy with the win, same as vineault, I see the mistakes from both teams,
and the good play from both teams.
Luongo had a great game, good for him, we need him to do that, we needed
him to do that in the last game, and the game before, and he didn't.
If luongo had played as he did, and we had lost the game 1-0, I would have
felt the way you do, we scored our goals, and got the win.

They scored four goals didn't they, luongo didn't score them.
We've won games when he was sloppy, it's part of being a team.

You're right talloola, I watched the entire 3rd period and it was nail biting time, down two men for only a minute when it was still 2/1. They really don't want to try that too often. Ohlund still looks good.

My son may very well be one of those tsn bashers. He refers to the sundin's as the sundin sisters. When we talked about the van/colo game and I mentioned how some were coming down on Luongo, he just asled where the sundin sisters were that night.....lol

That sisters thing is old and stale, bertuzzi used to call them the twinkies,
when he was with the team, but fortunately they are a very tough set of
twins, resilient, don't get hurt, play in the toughest areas of the game, with
no fear, one got his mouth ripped open recently, got stitched up, came back
and scored a goal, so that image of them dissapeared long ago.
But it still does amuse some I guess.

After the way Luongo played, the rest of the team definitely owed him a few goals so Roberto could get the win after all that work. Calgary must have been the most frustrated team in the league last night. 49 shots and one goal to show for it. They must have been doing something right to get that many shots but I tend to think that good scoring chances are a better barometer than just shots on the net. The Canucks had four scoring chances that they capitalized on and Calgary had one. Calgary had a lot more than that one scoring chance, and Vancouver had more than four but Luongo was there for all but one.

I think that New Jersey will be tied with Calgary with regards to frustration last night.;-) They totally outshot Toronto, but my Leafs were able to win 4-1. Odd parallel to the Vancouver/Calgary game actually. Both Toronto and Vancouver prevented their respective opponents from clinching their Division.

What it means is that we(Calgary) will have to beat the oilers in back to back games this friday and saturday to clinch the title.

That's right juan, kiprisoff also played well, had some tough saves to make,
and the goals he let in were not his fault, even though calgary charged
around offensively, they leave themselves quite vulnerable defensively, and
vancouver managed to capitalize on four of those mistakes.
We also had more penalties, some stupid ones by O'brian and Ripien, and that
caused more shots by calgary, but our pk was sharp, and their power play is
still weak.
There is much more to a game than shots on goal, many of those shots are
not dangerous, but luongo game up big on the good shots, and we had good
scoring chances too.
Canucks is still not solid enough in their defensive zone coverage, so they
will have to work on that for tomorrow.
Luongo hasn't stolen a game for quite awhile, he picked a good night to do it.

That's if canucks win both of their games, if we do that, and calgary drops even
one point, then canucks will take the title.

If both Calgary and Vancouver win both their remaining games, where does that leave them? Does Vancouver get an advantage because of their better goals for and against record?

Equal points...Calgary wins because we have more wins. IE.....if the seaon ended today...both teams have 96 points, but Calgary has 45 wins to Vancouvers 43 wins... this means Calgary wins.

Calgary will be the winner, as they will end up with more wins for the season
than Vancouver.

calgary home and home with edmonton, could be interesting.
l.a. can be very good, or not, we'll see. We should beat colorado, but
there is no guarantee for any games with any team.

it's going to be fun watching how it all plays out.

And if they were to both end up tied for wins then it goes to the team with the better record against each other. We can't depend on a win against either L.A. or Colorado and they would be wise to play them the same way they play Detroit. Calgary can not re relied upon to beat Edmonton either, so it will all be very interesting. I think the Canucks best chance in the playoffs would be against Columbus, but hey as Old Yogi used to say "it ain't over.................."
