Sex isn't the only way to become HIV postitive.

Maybe the husband had a contaminated blood product, was an intravenous drug user or was born from an HIV parent...

Also why are these examples always about men cheating on their wives. Women cheat nearly as often as men.

Recent studies reveal that 45-55% of married women and 50-60% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some time or another during their relationship.

Got any stats for this? Any evidence? Any research at all?

It depends on the restrictive nature of one's belief system. The more rules, the more likely one will break a rule - just as in civil society. (Eg. I've seen my neighbour back his vehicle into his garage without a seatbelt. My neighbour on the other side spilt some snow onto the road while cleaning his walks) If one's belief system includes thought crime (Coming to a neighbourhood near you) it's not a stretch to say "O hell, what's another peccadillo?!"

on that note child, there's no point in being in this conversation. It's so nice to see how enlightened, non-judgmental, and just generally 'better' you atheists are than everyone else. What a relief to see that mockery and moral superiority aren't just the hallmarks of religious zealots, but non-religious too.

Kerrie,

I was raised in the catholic religion. Just because I don't profess a particular religious belief does not make me an atheist. I calls em like I sees em and I have seen plenty to justify my opinions about religion. That you take offense at my opinion says more about you than about me. I think my statements were a counterbalance to your statements about the infallibility of the papacy.

The gist of my statement is "I have found..." In other words, it is my observation, from personal experience in dealing with religion and the religious. I could site specific observances but we don't have space here. Suffice it to say, that I have talked extensively with people of a wide variety of religious beliefs and have attended a multitude of churches and religious gatherings and I base my opinions on those experiences.

Cleffy,

If you think I was saying the pope is infallible, you haven't actually been reading my posts. What I said is that if you're GOING to follow the rules, you need to follow all of them, not just the one about condoms. You need to make sure your spouse if following them as well. And for the cases where medical issues have arisen, the church allows for that (although, as has been pointed out, they still don't want people risking their lives).

And if you're NOT going to follow the rules, then do so safely. Breaking one means you might need to break others. Don't hide behind the pope's coat tails when sex outside of marriage means you need to don a rubber.

And if you REALLY can't handle not living with either of those options.... leave the church.

Simple as that.

But hey, what do I know? I'm only religious because I'm a pervert in hiding according to your post that shouldn't have offended me.

did you also know that the more carpet you have in your house, the more likely it is that you'll walk on carpet?

Oh, and, the more cars there are on the road, the more likely it is there will be an accident.

I could carry on, but I think you get my point. lol.

Noticing something and actually researching it are two different things. Again, have you any stats?

Firstly, no one can ensure that another person is a strict adherent to a stack of rules. No one!

And, your position "Follow the rules or beat it" is a conservative perspective on human institutions. Many prefer to work within an organization to effect change rather than be winnowed out!

The pope wears a coat? Interesting concept. lol

Sounds reasonable, but then we are speaking of people who believe in things that reasonable people should be incredulous about. lol

There's a lot of us destined for hell, Honey, you won't be alone. lmao
