Cannuck: So what if Newfoundland's GDP was second only to Alberta in 1996? Are we moving too fast for you? Is it important to you that Alberta remain at the top of the heap?
No matter how hard you try to make this about Alberta, it never will be.
Look, however this appears on the world stage is irrelevant to the province. Williams and his predecessors have fought long and hard to get Newfoundland into the position it finds itself today. Finally we are reaching a level of financial freedom after 60 years of taking it on the chin. Acting greedy huh? I put it to you that we are just asking for fairness under the Canadian umbrella.
No. You are asking for a government handout you don't need when others in Canada could use it more. That is being greedy.
Truth be told, the rest of Canada is quaking in their boots because if Newfoundland and the whole of eastern Canada were to become self-sufficient it would upset the neat little arrangement we have operating in this country today where atlantic Canada is used as a farm for resources.
Nonsense. Canadians are tired of carrying the east. Little would make Canadians happier than to have a economically viable, sustainable and prosperous east coast. Hell just about my whole extended family live in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
