Iraqi journalist, Muntadar al-Zaidi, is being held in custody and has been subject to maltreatment, after throwing his shoes at George W Bush. This was a symbolic protest against the man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. His chosen missiles were a lot less deadly than the bombs, shells, bullets and instruments of torture that the US President has launched against the people of Iraq.

At least free him so that he can do a guest appearance on SNL and collect the royalties from Sock and Awe!

I have an old pair of shoes that are slated for the dump. Perhaps we should start a movement in Canada to send our old shoes to the American Embassies in Canada. If I had a camera I would make a video and post it on youtube. Maybe someone else can. Inundate the embassies world wide with old footwear with a note attached to have them forwarded to Iraq for people who have been displaced by US aggression there as well as requesting this guy's release.

Tyr,

Do you have an organization in mind that can handle a project like that? It would take forever to set one up. That's why I suggested the US Embassies. The US is responsible for the situation, they should help fix it, willingly or not.

I expect entrepruneurs to fill their hotdog carts with old footwear and position themselves for business at political events. Pelting politicians with shoes is the greatest political inovation of the last two centurys. I can't wait for the next election or speech.

Naw, the shoe thing seems to be Iraq's trademark now... Canada will have to step it up and chuck all our used underwear at the embassies.

Make sure you get some really good brown skids...... some yellow/green ones are even better.

We can out do those Iraqis in regards to being offensive

Good idea. Gotta go rush out to the Sally Ann and Goodwill to buy up all the second hand shoes. I'll be outside the Canucks games waiting for Gordon Campbell. 25 cents a shoe and you have to do your own throwin'

Iraq shoe-thrower to go on trial amid new torture claims

Tags: IRAQ
Zaidi, 29, became a hero to many when he threw his shoes at Bush during the US president's surprise visit to Iraq on December 14, an action considered a grave insult in the Arab world.

Webmaster's Commentary:
So, lying us into a war of conquest against a nation that had not actually attacked us (at the cost of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars) is okay, but insulting the guy who did the lying carries a potential 15 year prison sentence?
Anyone still think we are not living in a dictatorship?
