Horrendous sanitary conditions in northern Manitoba

I would not be against an independent auditor monitoring any funding that goes to First Nations Communities. There is nothing discriminatory about accountability.
The problem is that when something like this happens the innuendo and accusations often muddy the waters of discussion. We don't know why the conditions up there are so unsanitary, we only know that they are. If the money is coming from Ottawa it is not unreasonable to ask for a proper accounting to make sure these people are getting what is needed to sustain them as a community.
This is also a double edged sword, because if we are not ponying up enough money and simply acting as slum lords then guess what; we will have to direct that critical eye upon ourselves and dig deeper fr more funding..

I think we should get away from the politics of the matter and put together a panel comprised of builders, plumbers, electricians, bankers, land use experts, road builders, water experts etc. formulate a plan and get a solid cost estimate, then it can be put back in the political realm to fix the problem.

There is money to be made in compost toilets and RO systems with source draw pumps and UV. If I were in need of a job. I'd get my ass up there with compost ****ter is one hand and clean water system in the other, set up shop, hire a few local guys to help install them and maintain them as years go by. It's win win for an entrepreneur and the northern folks. I bet there is Socialist Western Diversification Fund cash to do something like that.
It's nice to know we don't **** into rivers/lakes and heavily process our drinking water from those same rivers/lakes in the south.

Does anyone even bother to consider how native populations lived prior to housing being provided for them? Does anyone care to question why houses built for them mere years before are no longer habitable? Does anyone bother to query why a thriving contract business exists solely to keep building houses in the north country in direct opposite equation to the birth rate on reserves?
Take a bit of a walk through any reserve and witness the new pick-up trucks ATV;'s, snowmachines sitting outside the houses with broken or missing windows, stoops or even doors.
Why do returning contractors regale us with tales of re-building new houses at the end of a row of houses built just 5 years before? Why do the houses built just five years ago have missing walls flooring and panelling? Why does the government continually provide replacement housing that has been trashed through lifestyle choices rather than age deterioration? Further; why is there no adequate audit process to bring this travesty to the light of day?
Our taxpayer dollars are being spent in a continuous round of building replacement housing for families who were provided with new housing as recent as five years prior. The previous house was destroyed in a lifestyle manner that saw it's insides ripped apart to fuel a woodburning stove rather than take the atv or snow machine into the bush to harvest firewood. The mantra is "who gives a s**t?" "the stupid government owes us and will replace it for us".
