This is the same doorknob that demanded the death of Salman Rushdie. Cat Stevens has finally completely flipped his cork. The strange thing is, that I used to like his music.

I like almost everything Cat Stevens did -I was quite a fan - now he seems like a completely different person. I still listen to his old music, but I never seem to equate that with who he is today.

Music hath charms ... and a life all its own. John and George are still alive any time I plug in Beatles.

When I was a lot younger, Cat Stevens was kind of somebody the in crowd listened to. I still have two or three of his LPs. You all remember LPs?......Just kidding. A few years ago my kids bought me a really good turntable and every once in a while I will sit down and listen to my old LPs. With a good power amp they sound pretty good.

haha Juan - ya I remember LP's, but by the time I was old enough to have any spending money to buy music we were well into the age of the 8-track cassetts - but mostly I had regular old tape cassetts... I had a Cat Stevens tape that I replaced at least 3 or 4 times - not sure what that's about - the last one was on CD and I lost that too.

LWolf - it's true - good music survives everything - even death.

Bloody eight tracks.......Just about drove Sony out of the music business. Luckily philips or whoever brought out the cassette deck....and the dual cassette deck. For several years I thought the CD was a soulless piece of junk.

Why is it that if someone is a talented artist they also have to be infallable? What's wrong with liking someone's music but disagreeing with their beliefs? They are people, not Gods.

lol - everytime I think of an eight-track' I get a pic in my head of my mom careening down a gravel road, canola fields flying flying by, (only it wasn't called canola back then) a massive cloud of dust plumed out behind us .......and Freddy Fender cranked...

funny how something that had my teenage eyes rolling back in my head now makes me feel good to remember...

You are right for sure - but Cat Stevens music was celebrated in great part because it was an expression of his beliefs. Many people felt a kinship with his music for that reason. Once his beliefs changed, that was gone.... and I for one was sorry to see that happen.

It would have been nice if he could have found some way to express his new beliefs through music in a similar manner that might make people feel positive about it and want to learn more about it.

Hey ... I don't think biting the heads off bats, or marrying up to a thirteen year old first cousin is all that cool either ... but that never stopped me from giving Ozzy or Jerry Lee a listen. Old Cat Stevens is Cat Stevens ... no matter what name he chooses today.
