Your favourite cookbook....

I have some of my mothers' recipes, some from my mother in law, some that i've collected from magazines, some from on-line, and a large collection of cookbooks.

I definitely don't have a single favorite, but our go-to for general day-day stuff is Fannie Farmer.

Best recipe is anything combined with Head cheese!

I wish more parents would teach their sons how to cook as this is the world's greatest hobby. What a wonderful book to use on such occasions!

Cook books are becoming obsolete, I can find any recipe I'm capable of concocting on line. :lol:

That is great as long as you know what to look for. A book that I had forgotten is the "Better Homes and Gardens" Meat cookbook.
Virtually every meat or fish you've ever heard of is in that book. It might even be on line.

I have the better homes and gardens 'regular' cook book, from long ago, but I don't
use it any more.
The red checkered binder. I also bought those for my daughters when they moved out
many years ago.

Epicurious.com is a great recipe website. I have one my mother made for me, she wrote out many of my favourite dishes she made, and placed them in plastic sleeves in a binder she titled Mom's Morsels. Love those recipes. I have quite a few now myself, like Italian, Thai, Soups, etc. Slow-cooker recipes. I think I prefer Mom's Morsels out of them all.

I now use cookbooks mainly for reference. Most of my recipes are in my head. I do
have a loose leaf file for recipes I've gleaned from magazines and other sources over
the years. I like "favourite recipes" because they are favourites. The St. Louis book
I mentioned earlier is all favourites from "famous" people in St. Louis.

I wish my Mom had written down her recipes. She was a great cook who rarely used a cookbook. She
taught me a lot of the basics but I wish I had some of her recipes.

Nice. Last Christmas I gathered all the old family recipes I could find and made up cookbooks for all the kids (well, young adults) in the family. Those things get lost too easily. It may not be exactly the same as Mom or Grandma made, but it's nice to carry on some of those traditions. Especially holiday favourites.

Any cook will use a recipe at some point. We got the Pillsbury cookbook as a wedding present forty odd years ago. About ten years later
I bought the St. Louis cookbook on the recommendation of a friend. These two are the only cookbooks I ever use and they are almost worn out.
Does anyone have a favourite cookbook?

We have cookbooks in hardcopy, but both of us find that the Google Cookbook is much better than any. lol
neither of us follow recipes that strictly.

My wife wrote a cookbook for her clients with food allergies. Wheat, gluten and yeast free cooking. Sells a dozen or so every month online.

i love cook books, they are an obsession of mine,i have many favorites but there are a few which comes to mind, the Whitewater series from of Nelson B.C,Shelley Adams, is one set or cookbooks is a go to for the love of cooking, particularly if we are entertaining. i am two short of the Whitewater set,I thought i was just one short,just recently there has been a release of a fourth cookbook of the Whitewater series titled,(which i believe), "passion".Joy of cooking is a fabulous cookbook .i like and love is a cookbook titled" the flavor bible",( by karen page and andrew dornenburg),this is a must have for people who love to cook,it is a book which lists affinities of specific foods,herbs,wines,etc,it is filled with all kinds of wisdom from chefs,i have used this book at least 30 times.The Best of Bridge series is a go to.i love illustrated cookbooks,such as the food lovers guide to the world (lonely planet),or the cookbook of "Spain,a culnary roadtrip Mario batali with Gwyneth Paltrow".I have used my herb and spice bible many and more times then i can think of,"worth its weight in gold". In total i probably have some form or other about 70 cookbooks,i love them all.

oh so happy,i just purchased my third Whitewater cookbook,it is titled "Whitewater Cooks","with friends",I am just about feeling complete with cookbook joy,but once again i am one short,I am no farther ahead.I thought i was one cookbook short a month ago,but i was really two short,I am catching up.The illustrations in the Whitewater cookbook series are a good feel deal,and have come to the conclusion where one lives will not dictate availability of food choices but more so people will drive the market of food choices,Nelson is filled with wonderful availability of foodie choices,not like where i live,but things are improving. But as a true foodie, the hunt for the ingriedant is part of the adventure, I love adventure..As a cookbook lover i receive cookbooks as gifts,"the Butcher,the Baker,The Wine and Cheese Maker,"an okanagan cookbook by Jennifer Schell is one of the gifted cookbooks I have received,i love everything about it,but more so i like the pictures of the people faces in this cookbook",people living the dream" and it shows on their faces,I like this,this provides me with cookbook joy.
I love to watch people enjoy food,i think this is because i enjoy food and the social impact it creates,i love the conversation of the gathering around food ,I tend to get more enjoyment from others eating my food then eating others food.As my grandmother before me,I really enjoy watching my family,the people i love enjoy my food,it is somewhat of a satisfaction and gratification beyond explanation,I think it has something to do with genetics.
I would rather cook then clean my house,as a matter of fact i would rather do anything before cleaning my house,these women who say "cleaning relaxes me" are a mystery to my thought process,but not unfamiliar as l have many friends who like to clean,sometimes i pay them to clean for me.I was born to have a maid,but noone cares.Unfortunately the house has to be cleaned,particularly with dogs in the house,what a waste of good time.
I love to cook,i still burn things,(rarely),but i am a terrible baker,i have been working on this limitation,I don't have much luck on some things,my cookies and squares are winners,my vanilla slices need some work..
Last winter i perfected my pizza crust,this brings me to the author James Mcnair and his series of cookbooks, the best pizza book i have invested in,he also has an excellent wrap cookbook, i would reccomend investing in James pizza cookbook

Interesting post by personaltouch - yes, there is a lot of discussion about the Zen of house keeping. But you don't often hear about Zen of cooking. All we see on tv is the joy on people's faces when they eat a well cooked meal but nothing about the inner satisfaction of providing something good for the family or for friends.

I do believe in the Zen of good house keeping and always keep my apartment neat & tidy. But my real satisfaction comes from preparing good meals and eating them, especially when I have nice leftovers for the next day.
