...so a hunter’s bullet is not that cruel after all….at least man kills even cooks meat before he eats.

Except for the poor lobster…boiled alive ….yikes

Anybody that says man's treatment of animals is cruel should be made to watch a coyote ripping and tearing apart a half born calf.

<H1 class=headline>Coyote attacks N.B. woman
Last Updated: Wednesday, February 10, 2010 | 9:47 PM AT

A New Brunswick woman who wrestled with a coyote Wednesday was still shaken hours afterwards but managed to walk away needing only a tetanus shot and a bandage.
Marie Simon of Saint-Charles, near Richibucto, said she went into her backyard about 2:30 a.m. to let her puppy Sampson out.
'All I could see was teeth.'— Marie Simon, Saint-Charles, N.B.
"He started pulling to go back in the house," Simon said. " thought it was jut a puppy thing and I heard a snarl and I turned around and I thought it was just a dog — and ended up it was coming right at [me]. All I could see was teeth."
Simon threw the puppy more than three metres away to protect him, then found herself under attack by the coyote.

God. Is there no food for these animals? Have they had too much contact with humans? Why are they attacking now?

Yeah, this is the second close call in 3 or 4 weeks in NB.........as for why?

I don't know. Deer population is pretty solid, as I understand it, maybe less small game? I can't explain it.

But I do know these are intelligent animals that need to relearn their fear of man.........

Juan, have you seen Avatar yet? The animals attack because Mama Gaia is pissed. I have been expecting but this a lot sooner and more frequent.

This is an old story. Its a tragedy that the woman died but get real. Its not a petting zoo in the wild. People that venture into the bush should have some protection. Even a can of pepper spray probably would have saved her.

You're kidding.. :)

I hope.
No. We have been raping and pillaging mother nature for along time and I think it is inevitable. We have become like a disease on this planet and Mama is going to have to purge herself of this disease sooner or later.

Eastern coyotes are more wolf than coyotes, having interbred with red wolves......bigger and meaner than their western cousins.

Yes, there are grey wolves in NB, just don't try and get Natural resources to admit it. :)

My friend, who spent a lot of time in the bush out west, thinks eastern coyotes have the worst of both worlds....a willingness to live close to man, like a coyote......and aggressiveness like a wolf, with none of the "manners" full wolves have.....

When I was a kid I spent years living near wolves & coyotes. I've never seen a wolf or a coyote that didn't run the other way at the first smell of humans. Granted this was quite a few years ago but up until a couple years ago wolves had never attacked man in North America. Could these "bush wolves" in the Maritimes have bred with dogs? I know wild dogs don't have much fear of humans.

I've been tailed by coyotes in the bush, and I used to laugh at peoples' fear of them.....I've only shot a couple, one had no idea I was there, the other was in garbage we carelessly left out at my camp.......he got shot because he DIDN'T run.....chose to snarl at me instead.

Coyotes here abouts kill dogs........as far as I know.......

I think the "never attacked man in North America" is very much a misconception.

I've read quite a few tales of wolf attacks.........rare, very rare, but not "never". As far as I know......Wolves seem to have manners, and much prefer to stay as far away from man as possible. I've never heard of a wolf in garbage..........coyotes? In this city they take dogs and cats out of people's yards.
WAY too bold.......people are now a source of food.

I intend to be a source of lead poisoning.

The coyotes south of Sudbury there are a little curious when your out fishing. I dont come across much wolf tracks but they are there and you can hear them at night.

If you see one healthy wolf in front of you, his whole pack might be behind you, and listening to that ipod in the bush might not have been a good idea :)

Well, I used to bring back the odd MB or SK moose hunter who reported they were stalked by wolves, and these were folks who had lived in the north all their lives. It was rare, but it happened. Any reports of actual attacks were third hand at least, so who knows.

There are definitely coyotes around here in a suburban / semi urban environment, and they have been threatening people and animals quite frequently. And there is no shortage of relatively tame deer, too.
