We never learned about it in school. The book on Hitler with all the pictures was quite popular at the library though.
Where did you go to school?? I think most high school European history classes are mandatory, and include a Holocaust section.
I know it varies province to province.....
I went to a bunch of schools in Canada, the US and England. We never did European history though. It was US history in Grade 9 (in Canada) and then again in Grade 11 (in the US). Like every good English kid I knew the dates of every major battle from 1066 onwards, but that's about it for European history.
In Canadian history they never taught us about residential schools. Whereas the US wasn't shy about talking about slavery.
Shoah Business didn't start to take off until the early 70s when the idea of using Israel as a ME base to fight Communist expansion into the Arab world came to fruition late 60's.

Auschwitz is now a liberation camp (???), please repeat that phrase just so I know you read it and understood it.
Let's no look at some actual history where more than 650 Arabs were exiles from Palestine because they would have been the majority of the population. In that program many villages were obliterated entirely and pine forests planted (the ones that burned down a few years ago) and built roads and made fields where villages use to be. That was 650,000 that left, it does not number the ones that were murdered.

They like it as it is more scarey than 'money-changer' which was like a real bad name and still is. You would they would want to improve their social standing rather than be an 'outsider'.
