Regardless of the reason, the guy was a full-on nutbar
Uncontested.

But a hero to those who hate the oil industry. Kind of like how David Koresh was a hero to militia freaks.
It's always amazing who the unprincipled will embrace, only to forward their personal biases and agenda's.

Anyone that thinks he was anything less than a vile, abusive, violent, misogynist, is kidding themselves at best, or lying to themselves at worst. Whose legacy is well documented from Thunder Bay to Iowa, to Trickle Creek.

As a defrocked Christian Reformed, student of Kuyperian theology. He was convinced as a "mature man" God was working through him.

His kind of OT fundamentalism, is mirrored in the Christian soldier camps. Where Christian moral relativism, is so mangled, it is twisted to the point where murder is an acceptable course of action, when confronting those that deviate from the harsh ideals espoused by self proclaimed leaders. By justifying it as God working through the individual.

I find it odd that a Fundamentalist Christian like Wiebo Ludwig who plants bombs would get a pass here; of all places.

Reason for the pass- Fighting a so called good fight in their eyes- Fighting for the little guy against Big Oil. I am sure they would have preferred him not being a freak Fundie - but then again they can overlook that. Amazing what people will overlook when it meets their agenda.

Well I am sure we will see more of his type. If they are successful and kill a large number of people- Guess what - Those on here that support this Wiebo lunatic - Will all be saying - Not me - I do not condone violence.

I saw a documentary called Weibo's War (or something like that), which was quite sympathetic to their cause, or atleast critical of a common enemy in the oil and gas industry. It's difficult to pin down but i got an uneasy feeling that the Ludwig family's interviews were highly scripted and situations staged.. with the women and children always under the supervision of Weibo or his sons.

Some of the images presented as health effects of sour gas on the children.. which might cause internal distress.. seemed much more characteristic of child abuse.. black eyes, welts on the legs and back. I don't have anything specific but i got a sense of real tension in the family.. and that this might have been one of these 'Christian' cults where devotion and obedience are beaten into children with the rod.. under a paternal and autocratic cult leader... Weibo.

And you'd have think the resumption of the bombings in recent years.. was done under the same sphere of influence from which those of the 1990s originated.

I think a lot of these "religious" whackos are able to survive because they are smart enough to condemn something that everyone in the whole wide world thinks is evil, hence gaining some credibility!

One of the components that upset the community was the fact that the shot came from Ludwig's ranch. The coverup was well orchestrated, but in the end, one of the group (a small #) pulled that trigger.

Blame the RC's to a degree, but it's more than apparent that the Trickle Creek clan had no problem with taking a life that night.

There wasn't really much of a cover up: the entire Ludwig clan used their right to remain silent and that left the RCMP with no where to go in the investigation. Charging the entire clan, including women and children wasn't realistically an option for the Crown.

There was a lot of speculation, fueled by some rumours of Ludwig and his sons occasionally approaching young women and inviting them to the farm, and others that followed the Ludwigs from the Ontario churches where Wiebo preached, that they were a cult of sorts, with ties to Bountiful and other fundamentalist communities in the western provinces and US. What was known as fact is that several of Ludwig's sons were married to Boonstra's daughters, and that a rigid discipline was enforced, including shearing the hair off the women when they displeased their husband or the "elders" (Richard Boonstra and Wiebo). Mamie-Lou Ludwig commented on being shorn and how it was right/necessary at times, in some news articles back when they were prominently in the media. Given the mindset of rigid control, I don't know what all would have been acceptable in the treatment of the children.

After a few pages I always stop reading these threads since it's either...

1-old fools with nothing new to say hissing & spitting @ each other.

2-old fools smelling deeply of each other's farts and grinning ear to ear.

So nature abhores a vacum - when you hiss either your ears whistle or your ass sucks wind. Which is it?

2-old fools smelling deeply of each other's farts and grinning ear to ear.

So you do like the smell of your own opinion.

I suppose Ludwig did show a little character in not putting up with any sh*t, but honestly if I was in the situation where I thought my children were being killed, like a wimp I'd probably move and save myself the worry and frustration.

You don't move a successful cult compound... move and you lose control. Instead you stay put, and you pit your family against the world, convince them to be scared, and convince the world to cut contact with them.

Hear say evidence doesn't cut anything. All you have been doing is a character assassination on someone you don't know.

It would be interesting to see what you'd think if you'd met him or seen him out and about with his women. They're very notable, they all dress alike in their Hutterite meets Gypsy garb. You can't miss them. I did business with them quite a bit. Saw them just this spring break in a fabric store when I was home as a matter of fact. Knowing you as I do Cliffy, I can guarantee five minutes of watching them flock behind their mother (they do not leave the compound without her), would have your skin crawling.

Or what?

I don't care what you take seriously. And I won't be doing your research for you. There were hundreds of articles printed when it was all going down and it was national news that the RCMP admitted setting him up. I have been around a decade or two longer than you have so don't be getting all pissy on me, because I'm not impressed.

Yes they completely ****ed up in trying to plant the evidence of what the community knew was happening. That is illegal and unjust and should not be tolerated in a democratic society.

Kind of like terrorism.
