So ... this letter 'K' on my ham 'n' cheese with the kosher dill ain't really kosher are ya tellin' me?

Woof!

lol... the two of the major tenets of kosher law... no animals that aren't cloven hooved and cud chewing, and no eating meat and dairy together. If it weren't for that kosher dill, you'd be REALLY screwed. lol.

TenPenny:

From my experience, kosher does indeed tend to be more expensive. My data comes from shopping.

well, after watching the little video about the symbols etc., I did a little personal research in my pantry. The only items I could find bearing a kosher symbol was the cheap box of no name crackers. The more expensive ones had no symbol of any sort for any kosher certification. I don't see an 'extra cost' to me there.

That's why it's only a tendency, Karrie. My kosher salt is cheaper than the sea salt I sometimes buy.

It's better around the rim of a Margarita glass, too.

when it costs to a factory, around 40.000$ per year to have a kosher certification .
question: from where these factories bosses will compensate this extra money......

The workers must pay. Usually this is done through harvesting valuable body parts to be worn by the gnomes of Zurich and merchants of jewels. These kinds of questions should not be asked, or you'll find your eyes counting diamonds in Amsterdam or London.

for the friends who are telling that koshering food deals with hygienic matters .
i will say , ok . let the rabbins who kosher our food , give us clearly what they are doing exactly and how they are doing it.
kosher doesnt have any relation with hygienic matters , its all about religious restrictions on the food.

Oy Vey Complain Complain Complain.....

With RC's diddling little boys and girls, Anglicans promoting homosexuality, Islamists conditioning children to become suicide bombers, Mormons advocating polygamy, Sikhs carrying knives and re-writing uniform codes all over the world..... let's all pray.....

You obviously need to do some more research.

Kosher law is that food must not be contaminated with insects or rodents (since neither is kosher food). Thus extreme care is taken to keep buildings and processing equipment clean to prevent both.

Kosher law states that animals we eat must be slaughtered for that purpose, they may not die of disease, or be diseased or deformed when slaughtered.

How can you feel those aren't hygiene issues?

ok ,lets say that it is all hygienic matters.
let these people do it under the canadian laws and the money they get , will go to the canadian government.
also , if it is an hygienic matter , there is many specialized organizations who can do it , dont forget the big income generated.

Religious restrictions intended for food safety. Have you even tried a google search for Kosher protocols? It's a special topic in meat science, that my school offers. It is more rigorous than normal inspection. There is a time limit from slaughter to freezer, 13 days or it loses kosher certification. Unacceptable fats are removed. Veins and arteries are removed. All bodilly fluids are removed. The hind quarter, most commonly used in Kosher, is soaked in water and salt to help drain the fluids. Meat must be washed every 72 hours in the slaughterhouse. And it can't come in contact with other sources of contamination (dairy proteins, antibiotics, other meat sources like pig). Koshered meat is eaten by more than just the Jewish peoples. It's recognized for the high degree of care involved, and many people look for that in an increasingly blind inspection system that lets e.coli and other red flags slip by.

In fact if you tell the airline when you're buying your ticket that you require Kosher food, you'll get better food than the regular fare....

Kraka..:)

Is that code for Cracker...just kidding...

How does Tim Hortons get away with not having all their stuff Kosherfied?

Maybe Timmy's doesn't get any business from the synagogue crowd...

Like many things related to "religious belief" it's an issue when you decide it's an issue and not an issue when you decide it isn't....

Ain't belief grand!
