I don't know anybody that detests money. I do know lots of people (myself included) that don't place a high value on it. The younger generations in particular are not driven by pursuit of a dollar. Older generations see that as laziness. They are wrong of course.
Since I want to retire where it is warm areas of, say Mexico, how much is the younger generation going to charge me for a 'cube of ice cut out of James Bay'? Then the water down there has drinking water that is the cleanest in the world and then' other water' that is part of the service industry. The West Coast has a current that would take garbage out to where the floating plastic is and anything from Japan will end up there also so it is a perfect dump for the world and being in the doldrums it won't be floating away anywhere.
Honest money would be making 5% more than it cost me to move the ice from point 'A' to point 'B' for the ice. Being the general contractor in charge of creating housing for the millions escaping the ice you make your money, then turn the 'keys' over to the 'State' and they take in 5% more that it costs them to run the place. The tenants aren't poor and a grass hut come with $10K worth on new electronics. Need it for all the new VR games coming out. I'm going to guess the guys on PitCarn Island have a distinct advantage when it comes to the term 'Pirate'. Good luck in safely landing the long-boat on a calm day let alone during some 'weather'. all based on data collected during such weather and the sailing dynamics of the original dingy in use back in the golden year of Pirates.
The menu could be quite long in that world as well as the one that gives you a choice of VR Worlds and users would get paid for time spent on the R&D side of the counter.
Some assembly required.
