Who will win the Next Election?

when is the next election anyway? or when is the latest it can be called?

Technically, the latest it could be called would be sometime in 2010 (right?)... But with a minority government and with the state of politics in Canada you can be sure it will be much, much sooner then that... I would be very surprised if it didn't happen sometime during 2007... Harper already seems in pre-electoral mode...

It would be kind of funny if the federal elections ended up overlapping the Quebec provincial elections... Maybe not that funny... things could get ugly... Imagine the PQ winning the election during a federal election campaign... The Conservatives and Liberals would suddenly start fighting over who can fight the seperatists the best...

Rumours seem to be pointing towards a Quebec election called for the 26th of Mars... If not that, probably some time in the first weeks of May...

interesting your right. Conservatives always had a clear platform. Liberals ran with what they tought was the tone of the society.

You are right about the the clear platform that the Conservatives had and I like the way Stephen Harper stuck with his priorities. What I don't like about the Liberals campaigns are that not only do they switch their policies to "suit the tone of society" as you put it, but they also continue to just use scare tactics on the Canadian voters.

Lets talk you own policies Liberals.....not just what the others will (or won't) do!

Who just said those wonderful Quebec Liberals that ripped us off for 100 million should be welcomed back into the party.

And that SOB just played a very nasty political game in bringing forth a motion to force the gov't to live up to Kyoto, which he knows full well is IMPOSSIBLE without simply shipping off billions of our tax dollars to the UN and China......for NOTHING!

But they don't do that very often. Lemmeesee, when was the last time they did that? Oh, yeah, long time ago when Martin took over from Chretien. Like I said, not very often. I rarely see the Liberals follow through with stuff. The Conservatives HAVE followed through with many changes they promised during elections, and have accomplished alot for 1 year. The child care, GST, accountibility act, etc. The income tax was a lost promise, BUT what about Jean Chretien's promise to abolish the GST after Mulroney... ah hem?

I think alot of these "polls" are rigged somewhat. I think generally society is satisfied with the Conservatives work so far.

Bloc has had a opposition before.

See the problem is, that we are not a 2-party system. We have 4 main parties. If these parties each get certain drops in the pot, it could give the Bloc a minority.

Lets see
308 seats
Bloc is in minority with 75
233 seats left
3 other big parties
233 / 3 = 77 seats.

So its "very unlikely" the Bloc would ever get in, by some miracle that they got all their seats, and the other 3 parties got under 70, and the greens picked up some.

That would be a short lived gov. Cut themselves from Canada, and leave.

Right but for all of the big three to get less than 75, thats 11 seats needed between the Greens, Independants and others, doesn't seem very likely. That's also assuming they win all their seats. Being the opposition party to me I guess would be a win for them I guess, and if we get another majority that's likely to be the case. Though I'm not sure which type of Parliament best benefits the Bloc, I would think minority government is better.

I don't ever remember voting for a party, but voting against one. Last election in my county the conservative were favored so I voted for them. Just didn't want to see the bloc get it . And they didn't. Wohoo ! But to actually believe there's a party that will do whats really needs to be done is being delusional.

I still do not understand how a regional party can qualify itself to win seats in the federal government.

For once, I agree with marygaspe. I personally feel a party should have to be nation-wide, and have a candidate running in each riding, to qualify to be a valid party.

Or at least a party has to have coverage in each province.

The Bloc is in it for Quebec and Quebec only. If we vote a Conservative, Liberal, or NDP MP they are in it for their riding and for the entirety of Canada.

I don't like the Bloc-Quebec only party situation.

Oops, doesn't the Bloc have a riding in New Brunswick. NB has lots of French.. I think they do have a riding or 2 in NB for Bloc.. am I wrong?

Yes, you are VERY wrong...........they do not have a seat, and the Acadiens of New Brunswick would be insulted that you think they would support the Bloc Quebecois
