It would seem to me that most of the inventions that do actually come out of the US are from immigrants....The US does have a few good inventions of their own..the stock market crash, the bank bail-out, the corrupt government.

Looks like you would have preferred riots, Greek style, to bank bail outs.

As for inventions developed in America by immigrants, did it ever occurred to you that those inventors came to America, because they could not get the education, the opportunity and the financing to develop their inventions in their country of birth?

Mothers invented necessity.

They also invented the discipline stick.

Now there is a market that is wide open for necessity to utilize. If we really want to reduce crime rates, mail mothers sticks (user's manuals for those mothers born after 1980) along with their CTC cheques.

It's a natural thing.

Nature lures kids with pussy willows to pick for mom ensuring their fate is set so that human kind remains relatively tame.

Glad to hear that the U.S. government was able to come to an agreement and keep the funds flowing. Happened to hear a political analyst commenting on the budget talks yesterday, seems that the discretionary funding bill they were fighting over represented but 1% of the total budget.

Sure makes one wonder just how they will deal with the remaining 99%.

USA, it used to be a good country. The regular law abiding citizens are great people. It is the Government of USA that is causing so much pain all over the world. You know what they say, what goes around comes around. Today the USA is powerful. We shall witness it in 5 - 10 years if it is still powerful.

I feel sorry for its citizens. They are nothing but imprisoned in their own scheme of democracy. The so called "FREEDOM" Open your eyes oh people and learn for what is the right path and the path to the truth. Your government is misleading you.

I would have preferred to see businesses that operated in a fiscally irresponsible manner go belly up and the govt give a trillion bucks to the working people of the country instead of some billionaire bankers.

Here is something you can take to the bank, PoliticalNick: If your wish that the rich give up their wealth, and share all their riches, totally and equally with the "working people", came true, in five years or maybe ten, those who had been rich before would be rich again, and those who had been poor before, would be poor again.

BTW, I notice that you ignored the part of my post which asked you about American Nobel Prize winners, who were born in another country.

I would like to ask the Americans questions. Why is that you Americans call it the White House? What is the story behind that name?

Another correction those pictures of seal hunting was from 30 years ago and if you think that 30 years ago is still in 2011 then you need to get some help buddy your mind is in a different century. No one is perfect and today if you were to accept and compare Canada to US, I choose Canada you know why because I have travelled the world and I have seen American Passports abroad and the way they were treated. Just the two different terms in front of a Passport makes the big difference. Whether it is Canadian Passport or American Passport. I choose Canadian Passport because I am welcome all around the world. I am loved all around the world. I do not need to hire a close protection team when I travel abroad even in the worst countries in the world.

I did a mountain expidition in Afghanistan and I didn't have to hire any security personnel to escort me from point one to point two. I rented a car in Dubai and travelled all over the Middle East and I was not kidnapped. I am a regular citizen just any other citizens.

Let see an American do that. I am not saying you hire media or CNN and FOX or MSNBC to do a survey. I am saying YOU as an American Citizen go ahead and do that? We shall see what happens.

Oh by the way I did all this between between 2005 and 2010 so not to confuse you.

So sorry Jack. Don't want you to think I'm ignoring you.

Yes there are many possibilities why those prize winning immigrants wound up in the US. Some came for an education, some came with an education but couldn't get support in their homeland, others came to escape persecution but that was kind of irrelevant to the context of the conversation at the time. The idea was put forward that 'Americans' were the greatest people in the world and that the list of nobel winners proved that. I was simply pointing out that a huge portion of the list were not in fact american but immigrants.

I would say that 100 years ago America was one of the greatest nations on the planet but is steadily declined into an arrogant, war mongering nation with designs on global control and I just can't respect that in any way.

Oh and BTW, you have said your insulting comment about the transfer of wealth before and I find it just as offensive now as I did the first time. You have such little regard for the average people that you put forward an idea that they are all so stupid they wouldn't retain any wealth if it was given to them.

No, I just stated something which I find quite valid. I have seen many people who became instant millionaires by winning a lottery, and they were broke within a couple of years. Conversely, I have seen many rich people, who went bankrupt, but recovered their wealth in short order.

Note that I never said ALL, referring either to the rich or "average people". I never said that ALL rich people were smart or ALL average people stupid. In fact, I never called anybody stupid. So, I stand by what I said before, and repeated just a few minutes ago. If you find it offensive, tough! The world would be a better place if people stopped being so painfully politically correct and did not get offended with every little thing said. If I have "little regard for the average people", I must have little regard for myself, because I AM rather average. However, I am smart enough to know my limitations as well as my abilities.

The statement I heard many years ago "If all the money in the world was divided up equally it would be back in the same hands within two years". I doubt if it's 100% accurate, but I'd guess there is some truth in it. Some people are poor because they like to spend and some people are rich because they like to hoard.

I heart The American People, it's sad to see what was once once great, disintegrate.
If they would of only listened to Ike, instead of allowing their govt to become a corporate shill.
Such a pity.

We in the United States feel that President Obama is doing this intentionally, letting the price of Gasoline rise untill it costs to much to produce and transport food and other essential goods. Thus breaking the American middle class. The poor will get poorer, but still get freebies from the government. Middle class make to much to qualify. In places like Louisiana we have oil wells that owners are being paid to keep in the ground. (wells just capped off that could pumped out at a cost of .50 cents a barrel.) It is time we told OPEC what to do instead of the other way around.

Example of U.S. mineral rights laws.

Yes I think the U.S.A. is the greatest country in the world. It has accomplished much in it's short existence whille many countries as old as the world itself have not progressed at all.
But I also think the U.S.A. will lose its status soon if it doesn't curb socialism and immigration.
U.S. standards of living are much like Canada's. The countries I have travelled to do not have a standard of living that would measure up, imo.
Canada and U.S. together could get along nicely without the rest of the world. We can grow or manufacture everything we need. I wish North America would opt out of globalization and become self sustaining.
