For the most part it works. Doctors run their operations as self employed and Canadians can choose their own physicians. Doctors bill the government for their services. Canadians live long. The drug companies don't control much and overall it's a pretty efficient system, even though it can be improved just like anything else.

Age is not a criteria for receiving healthcare.
Fame and wealth is, though.

This is your original statement.

lmao If you think some poor homeless dood hung up on heroin or something gets the same treatment in a hospital as say Jimmy Pattison or Harpy would get, you're really delusional.

Now.....I am far from Pattison or Harper when it comes to fame or wealth and our medical system has done very well by us. I have no complaints what so ever. My wifes heart attack, and her two bouts with pulminary emboli ( one when she was only 12 weeks pregnant) were handled well...as were every bout of kidney stones that I have had and my cracked ribs. No major waits in the ER and wonderful care while we were in the Hospital. I couldn't have asked, nor did I expect better care.

so, from my point of view, your statement is bullsh*t.

I have just been listening to Lou Dobbs, on CNN. Now for those who don’t know, Lou Dobbs is a loyal Republican, he is a confirmed Obama hater. He is also a birther, he has demanded that Obama release his birth certificate.

This is just so we know where he is coming from. He quoted an opinion poll which said that 70% of Canadians are happy with their health care system. He also said that every 30 seconds a family goes bankrupt in USA because of health care costs.

Incidentally he quoted satisfaction with health care systems in different European countries, and Canada has one of the highest satisfactions compared to Europe and USA. E.g. in UK it was less than 50%.

No I don’t, ironsides. I was watching him from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m., the program just concluded. Perhaps there may be something on CNN website, I don’t know.

But surprisingly, he quoted satisfaction with health care system and life expectancy, the two factors that show US health care system in a bad light. As I said, many Americans are satisfied with their own coverage, but don’t think much of their health care system.

The satisfaction was highest with the Dutch system, fairly low with German system (he quoted satisfaction by the citizens of the respective countries, satisfaction by the users themselves).

I don't know why you always think your opinion is "arrogant" but anyway - folks like Harper and Uncle Jimmy can pay for private care if they need it. Believe it or not - if a junkie ends up in the hospital needing expert care, he'll (she'll) get it just the same as anyone else. They don't have someone standing guard over them to see to it that the get the care as quickly as they should and the ambulance probably wouldn't be called as fast but once they are at the hospital, the care should be (and I believe it is) the same.
When my grandson was being born 3 months premature here in a fishing village without the aid of weekend doctors, our medical system sent a helicopter in for his Mother as soon as the weather cleared even a little so they could save his life. What more could they have done for anyone? The wealth of the family obviously did not enter into it.

I've been watching Lou Dobbs for years and he hasn't come across to me as being loyal to any party. He just basically hates which ever party is in power and calls the shots as he sees them. He is a little bit protectionist when it comes to American jobs and standard of living and tends to down play the world scene. I like Lou, great sense of humour and very astute.

lol I am sure Les would retort your comment about BS right back at you. Anyway, you found a good hospital. I am happy for you. But this kind of care is not uniform throughout BC let alone the country. City hospitals are pampered while rural ones are left to scrounge. Perhaps if someone had something major wrong they would get the same care as the wealthy and powerful, but for the more minor things, I think Les is right, the rich and powerful get pampered. Perhaps that's what they pay for or perhaps that's what we pay for, I have no idea, but I doubt JP or Harpy would get stuck in a ward room with regular people, serious injury or illness or not. I also bet they'd be allowed cellphones and computers with internet, get their food directly from the kitchens rather than having to wait for the trolleys of trays, etc.
Speaking of food, I had stones last year and had to go to VGH to have them zapped. Well, the difference in food between VGH and the local hospital here is like black and white. I found out why. Food at VGH is cooked there. Food at our hospital comes from the Okanagan. It's cooked there, frozen there, shipped here, and nuked here. I ordered out while I was here. And that's not unheard of here. People order out frequently.
So as far as equal treatment for everyone goes, it doesn't happen. Besides that we have doctors here that want to but can't retire because all the noobies don't want to live in rural areas. They want the hospitals and practises at the big centers. That also is a factor in equananimous care.
So do you want to base anymore of your argument upon personal anecdotes?

I think arguing about the quality of healthcare is a waste of time. Everyone's experience is as different as are doctors, clinics and hospitals and all that mixed in with personal attitude. The only comment I have to make about healthcare is that basically a family of three or more people can be covered for $110 a month. To me given all the demands people make on the system, I really think $110 is very cheap, to put it into perspective that's 1/2 a pack of smokes a day. How valuable is our health?

JLM, did you know that Lou Dobbs is also a ‘birther’? He has demanded that Obama release his birth certificate. To me, that alone is enough to condemn him. Anybody who gives any credence to the extreme right wing conspiracy nuts (who claim that Obama is an illegal alien) is not really credible, as far as I am concerned.

The facts reported by him may be credible, though. I don’t see him inventing facts, as far right routinely does. CNN would crack down on him hard.

He could retort back all he wanted, he supplied no evidence for his statement, either ancedotal or otherwise.

As far as your statements, they would be fine if it was restricted to one hospital, but it wasn't. Our experiences cover Langley memorial, MSA (abbotsford), Womens Hospital, Childrens Hospital, Royal Columbian, Burnaby General, Rocky Ridge (Calgary). A number of GP's and specialists, with no real appreciable wait to see the specialists. just lately, when it was decided that i needed cortisone shots into my shoulder, after x rays indicated it was screwed, it took just 2 days to get into the specialized unit to have those injections.

When my wife was in the Hospital after her heart attack, they allowed her to bring the entire frickin computer in and set it up at her bed so she could do the payroll for the small company that she worked for, and this was a small hospital, not a big city hospital.

Doctor shortages in rural areas is not something that just happens in Canada. Our neighbours south of the border have similar problems. Doctors can make more money in the city than they can in a rural area, that is just a fact, and has nothing to do with our medical system.

I thought we were talking about medical treatment, not fringe benefits. It's a given that all the rest would be at their finger tips if they needed or wanted it.

You can always find fault, the news outlets, bloggers, etc., don't publish the "good" only the "bad", because horror stories sell.

Barry Soetoro (Barrack Obama) some how managed to enter Indonesia and go to high school at a time when anyone traveling on a US passport couldn't enter.

How did he pull that off?
